Palin Bounce? Like a Rock Hitting the Ground

Friday, September 19, 2008

Sarah “Immaculate Conception” Palin, was to star at two major California fundraisers including an Orange County hootenanny for 15,000 next week. But according to campaign sources, the Caribou Barbie canceled her two-day swing through the Golden State where a new Field Poll shows Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama leads Republican presidential candidate John McCain in California by a whopping 16-point margin.

The cancellation is still a shocker to state Republicans. In recent weeks, Palin’s presence had electrified the GOP base in California, giving the McCain ticket a much needed post-convention bounce. GOP insiders were distributing 15,000 tickets to her planned Sept. 26 rally in Orange County and fundraisers reported an almost instantaneous sellout of her two $1,000-a-head Sept. 25 fundraising events in Orange County and Santa Clara.

But the Palin bounce has quickly become like a rock hitting the ground.

Major polls show McCain’s lead slipping away as Barack Obama retakes the number one position nationally while Palin’s negatives have soared 10 points in less than a week.

Here in San Diego, Sarah Palin is thought to be a joke and conservatives are calling in to AM talkradio to say she should drop out.

  2. Aunt Peg says:

So Obama is enjoying a 16 point lead in the Electoral College rich state of California?

This is splendid news! After a crazy week like this one, I needed to end the week on a high note.

    Great reporting, Christopher.

  3. Elvis Lives says:

I have a hunch the Old Coot is about to toss Palin off the ticket and go with Lieberman or Ridge.

She’s quickly becoming a liability for the old man.

  4. R.J. Lebeau says:

There’s no way in hell McCain can win California. But Obama’s up by 16 points? That’s awesome news to wake up to.

  5. Fran says:

This is the silver lining to the economic crisis & another FEMA failure (in Texas)….. it is helping people to see the light on how dark the reich wing really is.

If the current trend continues, the repugs will self implode before the election in November.

  6. Travelingman says:

Even if you have a 16 point disadvantage in the polls you still go and collect the money. They cancelled because they couln’t sell the tickets and they are just trying to put shit out there that is just not true. See if they had 100 people lined up at 15,000 you have to go and get the money…I smell a rat.

  7. feminazi says:

Palin is a circus freak. An oddity the conservative base come out to see like people used to come out to see a 6 legged pig in a jar. She’s quickly become a drag on the ticket.
