Navy Commander Permanently Loses Command

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

I just learned Navy Capt. Owen Honors will be permanently relieved of duty Tuesday afternoon, just two weeks before the carrier, the USS Enterprise, departs from its home port at Norfolk, VA to support U.S. combat troop missions in Afghanistan.

Capt. Freak is at the center of a series of antigay and sexually explicit videos produced several years ago and force-shown to male and female of serving onboard the USS Enterprise aircraft carrier. His sophomoric antics will cost Owen Honors his command, a Pentagon official said on Tuesday.

The videos, which include scenes of simulated masturbation, simulated eating of feces and two men as well as two women showering together, were made by Honors and shown as entertainment to some 6,000 sailors in 2006 and 2007. The videos also include slurs against gay men, were disclosed over the weekend by a Norfolk, VA newspaper, The Virginian-Pilot.

On Monday, Aubrey Sarvis, an Army veteran and the executive director of the Servicemembers Legal Defense Network, said in a statement:

“Capt. Owen Honors was acting more like the president of a frat house rather than the executive officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise.”

I applaud the Pentagon taking swift and decisive action to relieve Capt. Owen Honors of his command.

I’m shocked. Usually, anything involving the military grinds on and on, and decisions take an eternity.

This is an important statement to the Navy, the other three branches of the military, the American people and the rest of the world. Honors dishonored the Navy. His idiocy isn’t representative of the Navy.

  2. majii says:

Mr. Sarvris nailed it. Honors was definitely acting like the president of a frat house rather than the executive officer of the U.S.S. Enterprise. I watched one of the videos he made. It reveals a very immature person who should not hold any command position. I’m very happy to hear that he has been permanently relieved of duty. I recommend that should he want to know why he was relieved of command, he only needs to review the videos he made.

  3. STEAL TOE says:

Political correctness has taken over the military.

The video was poor taste and juvenile but, no one is heard to use the words “nigger,” or “cunt.”

Let’s call a spade a spade. The only reason the esteemed Captain Owen Honors was thrown to the sharks is he dared to diss the homosexuals and in 2011, we should all know, the homosexuals are a protected species.

  4. Pechanga says:

Steal Toe – Are you really that stupid or is it an act?

  5. Arizona Leatherneck says:

Steal Toe – Why is it all the posters who get banned from Huffington Post make their way here before getting banned?

Steal Toe would be outraged, real outraged, of the God damned video made fun of Christians, George W. Bush, Palin, and the Iraq war. Then he would demand Capt. Honors be hung from the end of a rope tied with a Navy knot.

    Ain’t that right, Steal Toe?

  6. DMason says:

I’m with Big Hank. I can’t believe the Pentagon/Navy moved so fast. They got it correct. Owen Honors is a damned disgrace. I’m no pro-military kook but there are many fine, hardworking men and women in the Navy who are trying to serve this country and they shouldn’t have Honors’ frat boy fantasy shoved in their faces.

  7. VicoDANIEL says:

Hey Arizona Leatherneck. I got banned from Huffington Post too.

My crime was posting that I saw Arianna Huffington chowing down on a steak at a famous New York City in Brooklyn a few years ago. Arianna is allegedly a vegetarian and when the mods read what I said, I was taken to the guillotine for my crime.

Steal Toe is an asshole but getting banned from The Huffington Post is something I wear as a badge of honor. No relation to Capt. Honors.

  8. I guess this is why the USA can’t capture Osama bin Laden.

The military promotes men like Owen Honors who are developmentally impaired and instead of doing their job, they spend their American tax payer-funded time making offensive videos having nothing to do with the mission they were charged to carry out.

Let’s hope the Navy does better next time. Especially, now that DADT is repealed.

  9. R.J. says:

This is great news. I’m really shocked they acted this quickly because I wasn’t expecting anything to happen for months, just like Tailhook.

  10. Carpe Diem says:

    Owen Honors is a punk.
He needs his ass kicked. I’ve met guys like this all my life
    and they’re punks.

  11. libhomo says:

I love how Steal Toe is linking to the Moonie paper. That’s a great way to undermine one’s credibility.

  12. Ryan says:

Die, fascist scum. And just so that you and the other haters know, there wasn’t a goddamn anti-gay thing that the guy said, unless you count one physically embodied representation of part of his personality calling another physically embodied representation of another part of his personality a “fag” to be “anti-gay.” I’m going to call my gay activist friends in San Diego to make sure they think twice before listening to idiots like you.

  13. Randy Arroyo says:

It pisses me off enough that my tax dollars are going to borrow $1 trillion from communist China for the Iraq and Afghanistan wars but, now we have an aircraft carrier commander making junior high school p’unked videos that diss gays and women? Owen Honors can serve beer and wings now at a sports bar in Kansas City.

  14. Adirondacky says:

Am I alone in thinking Steal Toe and Ryan are doppelgangers. God damned pesky trolls.

  15. Jolly Roger says:

Steal Toe is just another brain-dead inbred, who sees nothing wrong with punishing those bitches for being on a ship instead of at home, squirting out babies.

  16. Jolly Roger says:

Ryan, I doubt seriously you have ANY friends besides the ones you play “WoW” online with. And no, your “girlfriend” that you make passionate love by proxy to in mommy and daddy’s basement does not count.

  17. feminazi says:

If I may offer a quote here: “It takes 20 years to build a reputation and five minutes to ruin it.” — Warren Buffett. Perhaps, People like Capt. Honors will take this to heart the next time he decides to engage in behavior such as this, and trust me, there will be a next time.

  18. Woodcliffe says:

There is a human resources term called “hostile work environment.” When this threshold is met, you have the basis for a lawsuit against your employer.

Attorneys who specialize in prosecuting such cases look to see if the client feels they are a victim of a “hostile work environment.” Since many female sailors (and several male soldiers too) on the USS Enterprise complained about this video, one could argue they were victims of a “hostile work environment.”

In a military environment, you cannot behave the way Honors did and maintain order, cohesion and command.

  19. And if all of this isn’t bad enough, now comes word actress Glenn Close visited the USS Enterprise a few years ago.

She graciously posed for pictures, signed autographs and toured the aircraft carrier. Her visit was filmed.

When the Animal House video went public, apparently former-Capt. Owen Honors thought it would be funny to edit part of Ms. Close’s visit into the film so it looks like she was part of it.

    Needless to say, she’s livid.
