Obama Administration to Allow 13 Companies to Resume Deepwater Drilling

Tuesday, January 4, 2011

Has President Pootie Tang done lost his damn mind?

TIME Inc., reports:

The Obama administration said Monday it will allow 13 companies to resume deepwater drilling without any additional environmental scrutiny, just months after saying it would require strict reviews for new drilling in the wake of the BP oil spill.

The government said it was not breaking its promise to require environmental reviews because the 13 companies — which include Chevron USA Inc. and Shell Offshore Inc., had already started drilling the wells without detailed environmental studies.

It was the absence of a detailed environmental study was cited in the lethal  Deepwater Horizon oil explosion in April, 2010. The subsequent explosion killed 11 workers and led to the worst environmental disaster in U.S. history.

  1. Joe in Colorado says:

Obama is Bush with a tan. This guy is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Big Oil and can’t trusted to protect the environment or the American people. I never thought Obama was an environmentalist but 9 months after the Deepwater Horizon mess and we’re right back to square one. Oh well. 2012 is coming and we will have a chance to turn this mess around.

  2. Criticaleye says:

Oh, Obama………. what a great Republican President you have become!

  3. MichaelTAtheist says:

What’s he going to give away next……. The Arctic National Wildlife Preserve???????

  4. Scott Dancer says:

Apparently, Obama learned absolutely nothing from the Deepwater Horizon mess. Maybe Tony Hayward promised he and Michele a place in the English countryside for a promise of stupidity?

I just heard Steven Power from the WSJ on Diane Reem’s NPR program make the following statement:

“There was no damage to the Gulf.”

So there you have it. Big Business and Big Oil has infiltrated the last remaining “liberal” radio show with a barrel of lies. For the record, my brother-in-law owns a company that cleans up after Big Oil’s messes using special bacteria that eats the sludge and leaves 98% no waste behind.

He says the Gulf still smells, and fish ecology is upside down. But Obama says “drill, baby drill?” I say, impeach him.

    Happy New Year!

  5. Estacada says:

This decision is all about the 2012 election.

Pootie is buying the support of Big Oil at the expense of commonsense. I know now this pathetic excuse for a president is no liberal. He’s not even a centrist Dem. He should just switch parties and run for reelection in 2012 as a Republican.

  6. Rachel says:

Oh brother! Here we go again. Oil drilling in the Gulf of Mexico without requiring an environmental impact study. I give up on Obama. He’s just a clown carrying water for Wall Street, banks, Big Pharma and now Big Oil. I sure hope he faces a challenger in 2012 or I plan to stay home on Nov. 3rd.

  7. Harry says:

This is so depressing. I’m going back to bed.

  8. Marcus Ybanez says:

Before the BP/Deepwater Horizon disaster, Obie opened up the entire eastern seaboard to drilling. Alaska too.

Only the BP/Deepwater Horizon disaster clipped his oil-thirsty lips and stopped the madness. But trust me on this. Before the 2012 General Election unfolds, ANWR will be opened to oil exploration and drilling. Earning this DINO Dem president high marks from Palin Inc.

  9. Big Hank says:

With gas prices over $3 a gallon and most experts saying $5 a gallon will be the norm by July 4th, 2011, Obama is no doubt trying to get out ahead of his critics who say he’s to blame for the problem.

Of course, the real reason gas prices are soaring is thanks to the hedge fund speculators. The money boys are betting on a recovery by the end of 2011 so they want to be well positioned for the profits. This is where our hapless president needs to focus his attention.

  10. Scott Dancer,

Anytime you have someone on from the Wall Street Journal you can rest assured they will side with big business against all logic and reason.

To say the Deepwater Horizon oil spill didn’t harm the Gulf is utter nonsense.

  11. libhomo says:

    Aaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!

Sometimes Barack Bush just makes me want to scream.

  12. fran says:

I just read an article tar balls are still washing up on beaches in the Gulf, and they still have clean up crews removing oil off beaches, to this day.

    Collected dead:
    6104 birds
    609 Sea Turtles
    100 Mammals (Includes Dolphins)

Here is a link to the list of Threatened & Endangered Species effected by the Gulf Spill (Disaster).

    http://www.fws.gov/home/dhoilspill/pdfs/FedListedBirdsGulf.pdf

    Includes these species:
    • Manatee
    • Loggerhead Sea Turtles
    • Leatherback Sea Turtles
    • Kemp’s Ridley Sea Turtles
    • Green Sea Turtle
    • Alabama red belly turtle
    • Whooping Crane

The Brown Pelican was just removed from the federal endangered species list in November of 2009.

Read it & weep, bird impact data:

Hard to believe the disaster is not yet over, cleaned up, and they have already forgotten about it & ready to move on??

  13. feminazi says:

Sometimes Obama makes me wish I had my 2008 vote back. How could I gotten it so wrong? I’ve been voting for presidents since Eisenhower and this is the first time that I felt like I was made a fool by a candidate. I don’t like feeling like a fool.
