Evangelical pastor Rick Warren is begging parishioners at his Saddleback Church located in Orange County, CA for a staggering $900,000 before January 1st to keep the parish out of the red.
In an urgent letter posted on the Saddleback Church website Wednesday, Warren says expenses are up because parishioners are out of work and “the bottom dropped out” when year-end donations dropped dramatically.
In addition to being a pastor, Warren is a multi-millionaire, bestselling author of “The Purpose Driven Life.” I find it a telling comment on Warren’s character that instead of tapping his own bank account to help keep the massive Saddleback Church afloat during recession, he has the audacity to ask his followers to write checks.
Maybe President Obama can write his pal Rick Warren a generous check? I mean, Warren did deliver the inaugural invocation and Obama can take it as a tax write off for year 2009. Just saying.
TOUCHE, Brigadoon; I can tell we would be great friends!! LOL!!
It’s a recession and here in California, unemployment is hoovering around 12%. How can Rick Warren be such a moron?
Oh, that’s right: he’s a Christian and a pastor. Sorry, my bad.
I remember when Osama bin Warren was renting a high school auditorium behind the Orange Curtain in CA. I hope the bigot goes bankrupt.
Interesting, maybe he should let his flock know how much money was funneled into fighting the equal rights of others in Florida,Califorina and Main and not least of all Uganda
Ah yes, a megachurch reaps what it sows. And….. OF COURSE Warren won’t do anything to save it. The church is there for him to get fat off of, and for no other reason. If it fails in its reason for existence, then it’ll just have to go.
Maybe Fat Ricky should sell the Lear Jet BEFORE he asks people for money to help pay for the operations of the Saddleback Church? We Americans looks for ways to trim expenses during difficult or leans times. Fat Ricky needs to do the same. In any case, Happy New Year, Christopher. Be safe and I hope you and Jim have a terrific evening.
Maybe he could claim that God is gonna send him to “be with Oral” if he doesn’t get the cash.
Maybe Tubby The Preacher shouldn’t have spent so much money against Prop 8?
Or maybe it’s something simpler, like payoffs to folks who may have had inappropriate relations with church leadership? That took its toll on US catholic dioceses. Just saying.
and plenty of idiots will be sending him their social security checks…… i guess he learned from his “friend” oral roberts about “how to raise money and influence people”
are they all such douchebags
i know the answer
As this being the first day of a new year, I am going to start off by commenting on this article.
I have seen people ruin their financial lives for the
sake of these so called “Preachers”, I am not
against faith, just the organized religion. He should, as all of “them” should, reach into their
own pockets of millions and help their ministries,
instead of taking the one check a month that so
many of their flock depend on!!!!!!!
I do not know whether Warren is a bad guy, but he came off really well on Meet the Press. He said he gives away the vast majority of his money to charity. He says he lives a modest lifestyle, despite have a huge best-selling book that makes millions a year.
$900,000 to keep the Saddleback Church out of the red and spewing their vile, homophobic rhetoric?
If this fat ass Rick Warren is having financial troubles he can start by parking and selling his $12 million dollar Lear Jet. If he gets a buyer that will net him 10 times what he’s asking parishioners to give him.
The sad truth is, there are many people out there who for whatever reason: illness, fear of death, whatever, will be hoodwinked into thinking if they help Rick Warren financially, they’re helping themselves buy a ticket to eternal life. Particularly, this time of the year when the Xristians are carving stigmatas into their backs and feet.
