Los Angeles Arsonist: ‘I hate America’

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

Harry Burkhart, 24, the arson suspect in at least 55 Los Angeles county fires, is being held without bail, according to authorities. Burkhart resembled a ‘person of interest’ captured on surveillance video, and reportedly told authorities ‘I hate America’ as he was arrested.

A wrath of fires ranging from mid-Wilshire, to the Fairfax district, Hollywood, West Hollywood and the San Fernando Valley, destroyed cars, scorched apartment building and houses, rattling the nerves of resident in a metro area of more than 13 million over a four-day period.

Burkhart is believed to a foreign national from Germany. It is also believed his mother faced a deportation hearing in Los Angeles County within the last two weeks. There have been no new arson fires since Burkhart’s arrest.

Arson is a crime of anger. The people who engage in this behavior are timid little creatures who want to frighten and harm the maximum number of people possible. Burkhart is angry at the USA for the injustice of deporting his mother so everyone must be made to suffer. He’s clearly mentally ill and can’t be set free to repeat the behavior.

I’m glad an arrest was made in this terrible arson case. It was only a matter of time until someone got hurt or killed. LA is densely populated and fires can spread quickly. Let’s hope this is the end of it.

These fires were all around us. I walk to Hollywood and Highland where they shot footage of him. It is such a relief that they caught the guy finally. Creepy stuff.

  4. Mets Fan says:

Harry Burkhart should at least be charged with attempted murder.

But alas, I’m sure he will be sent to a cushy, country club mental institution where he will live out the next 40 years in style and comfort, with 3 meals a day, a color TV and 200 count cotton sheets.

  5. I’d like to see Harry Burkhart deported along with his mother on a slow boat to Europe.
