Obama Avoids Tornado Ravaged Joplin, MO to Loiter with British Royals

Tuesday, May 24, 2011

Call it, a study in contrasts.

At 5:40pm on Sunday, a powerful EF-4 tornado a mile wide took aim at Joplin, MO, a city of 50,000, leveling everything in its path. The huge twister destroyed buildings, upturned vehicles and flattened neighborhoods. One quarter of Joplin was destroyed. Patient medical records and x-rays from St. Joseph Medical Center were discovered 70 miles away. At least 117 people died and 2,000 were injured.

Where was President Obama at this time of tragedy?

He and the First Lady Michele were getting their were getting their taste on for the royal lifestyle. The president and his wife are in London, ostensibly for a state visit. The Obamas were welcomed like visiting royalty with a 62-gun salute, a limey rendition of the Star-Spangled Banner, and a private lunch with Queen Elizabeth. The Obamas also met privately with newlyweds William and Kate, the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge.

The Obamas will spend two nights in the Buckingham Palace.

Editor Note: Joplin tornado just upgraded by the National Weather Service to EF-5; death count up to 122. 1,500 missing.

    O-Bummer….. he’s ‘N-Bush’ Junior.

  2. Joe in Colorado says:

Now come on. Why would Barry-O want to muck in with all that death and destruction in Joplin, MO when he can instead meet Queen Elizabeth and her inbred family and receive a sleep over at Buckingham Palace? You’re mistaking Barry-O for Bill Clinton and never have two Democratic presidents been more different.

  3. feminazi says:

The same happened a few weeks ago when North Carolina was ravaged by an unusually powerful tornado. I can’t recall where in the world Obama was then but, he seems to have an innate talent for avoiding tragic situations and offering the sort of emotional comfort Americans came to cherish after a disaster they got from President Clinton. Obama’s no Bill Clinton. He’s remote and uncomfortable in such settings.

  4. Mets Fan says:

    America’s king and queen.

  5. Peace Nick says:

Fear not children. Barry will grace Joplin with an appearance this Sunday.

Until then, he has more foreign heads of state to dine with, and palaces to sleep in, as he makes his way across Europe.

  6. Brigadoon says:

Bush avoided natural disaster too. I’ll never forget the image of him flying over New Orleans after Hurricane Katrina ravaged the Crescent City. He clearly didn’t want to much in with all those poor black people. Obama’s the same. Dr. Cornel West had Obama’s number all along.

  7. Donny says:

We had a similar tornado that flattened Greensberg Ks in 2007. Three quarters of the town was wiped out. the only thing standing in the west part of town was the grain elevator. Bush was there a couple days later and he returned for the high school graduation the very next year. In our case he was very much interested in our suffering.

  8. Jim In OC says:

What a rubbish blog and equally rubbish comments. What exactly the President should be doing again??? Turn the Plane in the middle and come to Joplin (whatever the heck it is)??? Cancel the meetings which was arranged months in advance with our allies?? Wave a magic wand and rebuild the trailers again???

  9. Jim In OC says:

JOPLIN, MO residents got what they deserved.
when you live in areas that are pron to major tornados every year thats what you get when they come around. the funny thing is that most of those dumb southern hicks will build right back up in the same place.

  10. DMason says:

Maybe Obama will do a Bush-like fly over to observe the suffering from 7,000 feet?

  11. Jim In OC Screams: “JOPLIN, MO residents got what they deserved.”

Wow. Must be the rantings of one of them, thar ‘compassionate conservatives’ we heard so much about a few years back.

  12. Debbie Banuelos says:

Stay in the UK with the Royals!

I seriously don’t think Obama will be missed much. At a time of distress when people need a strong shoulder and a pat on the back, Obama is the last person I would look to for reassurance.

  13. Robert from Oklahoma City, OK says:

Jim from the OC.. you’re a complete loser. Middle America is where a lot of the food comes from you eat if you live in the U.S. If the OC refers to Orange County… when you get shot from some gang-banger, die in an earthquake or any number of acts that are prone to happen where you live…. YOU DESERVE IT TOO

  14. Shawn says:

They got what they deserved? Jim in OC, you are a true douchebag. If you are in Orange County, you are sitting on a fault line… By your logic, you then deserve to be crushed by your house when the next big earthquake that strikes there. Funny thing is that there probably wouldn’t be anyone that misses your sorry ass.

  15. cherie says:

Wow this article is so false!!!! Obama will be in Joplin this weekend!!! Get your facts straight!!!

  16. Idaho Librul says:

Sunday is a week after the terrible tornado leveled Joplin.

Will residents who lost homes, family members, pets and the businesses really care a week later if Obama graces the town with his rarefied presence? I think not. Americans aren’t stupid. They know Obama’s been hanging out with Queen Elizabeth this week and living like, well, royalty.

The message is, the little people back home don’t matter.

  17. Baise says:

Yes, Obama is just living it up on vacation. Why didn’t he just shuck his presidential responsibilities so he could be in Joplin to watch the suffering.

  18. Nicole says:

I’m completely horrified by some of these comments. The rude ones in particular were made by such ignorant people!

Joplin is in the southwest corner of Missouri. No, it is not a large trailer park, it is a nice town. I can’t remember ever seeing a trailer in it, come to think of it. As for ‘dumb hicks rebuilding in the same place,’ I would like to point out that there is danger to living in EVERY area on the planet. California has earthquakes. The deep South has hurricanes. The mountains have avalanches and blizzards. We’ve got tornadoes. We’re no dumber than the rest of you.

Oh, and for the record- we feed you. Just a little reminder. 😉

  19. Ruth says:

    Give me a break, Obama
is where he should be representing OUR country,He is coming today to meet Joplin. He is the president, not a storm chaser.

  20. Big Hank says:

Obama has always been perceived as emotionally removed. A remote academic who doesn’t have the human touch Democrats grew accustomed to when Bill Clinton was president.

None of this really matter until there’s a disaster where Americans are killed, it is then people look to their president for moral and emotional support. This isn’t Obama’s strong suit and it never will be. You can’t teach someone compassion and when he’s seen in Buckingham Palace with a group of inbred, British elites on the day images of Joplin, MO are shown side-by-side on the news, Obama looks like he doesn’t give a shit.
