Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. (D-Chicago) has a few words for the president, the Congress and Speaker Nancy Pelosi regarding the communting of Scooter Libby’s prison sentence.
”Since the president has intervened in this process, it is now the Congress’ obligation and responsibility to intervene in the executive process and begin an inquiry into these very serious crimes against the constitution of the United States,” said Congressman Jackson.
Jackson says this time the president went too far. After word that Bush commuted Libby’s sentence Jackson plans to call on House Democrats to start impeachment proceedings.
“I certainly hope Nancy Pelosi will withdraw her initial remarks that impeachment is completely off the table,” Jackson said.

Congressman Jesse Jackson Jr. is brave and his words ring true for me. Too bad the Democrat leadership in the House and Senate are afraid of the “I” word and are willing to ignore the rule of law to win the White House.
I see a big future in national politics for Rep. Jackson.
Americans are desperate for leadership in government and I’m convinced it will come from people under age 40, who haven’t been co-opted by the Washington DC lobby culture and the endless stream of blank checks.

I work nights and listen to a right-leaning AM talk radio program to stay awake on my drive home at midnight.
For whatever it’s worth, last night callers were running about 9-to-1 in favor of impeaching both Bush and Cheney and about 9-to-1 angry at Nancy Pelosi for taking impeachment off the table.
There is a lot of outrage brewing out there and the Congress is playing with fire if they ignore the will of the American people and give this son-of-a-bitch president a free-pass.
Rep. Jackson isn’t going to win any friends at AIPAC.

How does the “brave” Rep Jackson get from here:

Has he even read the Constitution? Apparently not.
Whatever Bush’s faults and shortcomings are, you can’t impeach him for exercising powers explicitly granted in the Constitution.
I have to ask, did any of you that are so injured by this grave miscarriage of justice bother to speak out when Clinton pardoned armed bank robbers, embezzelers, frauds, and about a dozen folks that were convicted of exactly the same crime that Libby was?
Maybe I’m missing some key bit of information, but if outing Plame was a crime (even if it wasn’t, everyone involved should have seen it as a bad idea), and Armitage owned up to the outing to Fitzpatrick during the investigation, why wasn’t Armitage charged? If he wasn’t charged because it wasn’t a criminal act, does that mean that Libby obstructed the investigation of a non-crime? I’m asking this in all seriousness, and not rhetorically.
I am most emphatically not implying that since Clinton did it, it’s ok for Bush to do it. What I am saying is that both parties are equally corrupt, and cheerleading for the party that built a cottage industry out of pardons based on the Libby case does not reflect well on otherwise intelligent folks like yourselves.
The window of impeachment has passed. If procedings started today, they still wouldn’t be wrapped up by January 09 (only 18 months hence) Instead of focusing on this dead horse, why not hold Reid and Pelosi’s feet to the fire with regard to earmarks and lobbyist reform? We all want transparent, honest government, and as long as the Democrats refuse to implement the reforms they promised in these areas (exactly as the Republicans failed after 1992), we will continue to have a cesspool where our statehouse sits.
