If the Republicans were really so concerned about the rising cost of healthcare in America, they would look at these numbers and pass meaningful gun control laws. Think about this: of the 10,728 who die each year, how many racked up huge hospital bills before finally dying? But no one will ever accuse Republicans of thinking.
I’m one of those lucky people who like in the UK. Guns just aren’t something we think about except when on American imported TV.
No one has a hand gun. They are completely banned. Few people have rifles. The police don’t carry guns. They don’t have to.
I wondered why many Americans feel the need to carry a gun. Second amendment? Hardly. A militia=the army or paramilitary like the police. Not regular citizens.
I truly believe its a power thing. People feel so disenfranchised that they have to own a gun to feel powerful. Ban them all. It’s the only way to really make a change, and throw everyone who has one, after say a 3 month amnesty, in jail for 3 months after taking their gun.
Seems simple to me, although I can just imagine some hick who feels they can do what the hell they want standing off against the police for weeks. Here I’d recommend tear gas.
PS. My politics would likely be democrat in the US but over here in the UK I’m on the right. Funny how European right wing is to the left of the republicans.
Sometimes……I just don’t get it……..politics&stuff……The Republicans will fight Gay Marriage, equal rights for women, progressive health initiatives…..\cause those things will wreck America/ and yet, when a tragedy like this happens….their heads are in the sand. Or they come up with some really stupid talking points “gees,” they will say,” if only those kinders and first graders had had guns…why this would not have happened!” I am so tired of stupid. I really am.
It would be more genuine to include the numbers from Mexico and Brazil on the list. Both countries have extremely draconian gun control laws and report far worse gun violence than the United States. Do what you will with the gun control laws but you cannot hope to put a dent in the violence until you find a way to address the mental health issues behind it.
So far the NRA has been silent on this. Other gun enthusiasts have (finally) come forward & said no hunter or average citizen needs a rapid fire assault weapon, or bulk ammo clips.
Of course gun sales have soared. Sick.
You are a New Left Hipster, also known as a MoveOn.org liberal, a Netroots activist, or a Daily Show fanatic. You believe that if we really want to defend American values, conservatives must be exposed, mocked, and assailed for every fanatical, puritanical, warmongering, Constitution-shredding ideal for which they stand.

I have lived in cities, suburbs, ghettos and in rural America and I have never once felt so afraid that I bought a gun for protection.
Of course, I’m male and I get along with just about everyone, so what would I have to fear?
I live in the Mid-Wilshire district of LA, don’t own a gun and never felt the need to buy one. Why do so many Americans eroticize guns and rifles?

This is shocking. I have no words.

Evidently, Adam Lanza’s mother was a gun nut, owning a small arsenal of firearms.
