The mother of a Navy SEAL Glen Doherty killed in the attack on a U.S. consulate in Benghazi, Libya told WHDH-TV that she thought Mitt Romney was exploiting her son’s death for political expediency.
Barbara Doherty said:
“I don’t trust Romney. He shouldn’t make my son’s death part of his political agenda. It’s wrong to use these brave young men, who wanted freedom for all, to degrade Obama.”
Glen Doherty was one of four Americans killed in the September 11 attack on the U.S. consulate.
Romney met Doherty at a Christmas party and later told a crowd on the campaign:
“I met some remarkable people, one of whom was a former navy seal. I just learned a few days ago that he was one of the two former navy seals killed in Benghazi. It broke my heart.”
But Romney’s emotional homily was contradicted by Glen Doherty, a friend of Glen Doherty, who said on a radio interview:
“He actually approached him, using this private gathering as basically a political venture to further his image. And Glen just believed it to be very insincere and stale.”
