Republican presidential candidate, Mitt Romney, a man with a net worth of at least $250 million with secret bank accounts in mysterious, off-shore tax havens like the Cayman Islands and Switzerland, was asked by ABC’s George Stephanopolous if $100,000 is middle income. His reply may or may not surprise you.
STEPHANOPOLOUS: Is $100,000 middle income?
ROMNEY: No, middle income is $200,000 to $250,000
Poor Mitt. He lives in an alternative universe. According to recent U.S. Census data, just 1.9% of U.S. households fit that definition.
Median U.S. household income is around $50,000.
I am not surprised by Romney’s answer.
After all, this is a man worth a quarter-of-a-billion dollars, with four houses and an elevator for his cars. If you want to elect a king, vote for Romney. But if you want to vote for a man who understands the problems of struggling Americans, vote Obama.
Do you get the impression he’s trying to lose the election? It’s as if Romney is begging voters to send his ass packing back to Belmont, MA or La Jolla, CA.
Vivzz,
I don’t think Romney had a clue how much time and energy it takes to run for president. He’s already cancelled scheduled campaign stops because he was “too tired” to attend the event. Remember, this is a man who spends his days lounging around the pool, playing golf and water and snow skiing. His idea of work is radically different from you and me.
The reason Willard is running for president is he thinks the 13% he paid last year in federal income taxes is simply too high. If he gets the keys to 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue, he may be able to reduce his tax burden to 5% or even less. I truly believe this.
Do you fly private or do you muck in with 150 men, women and crying babies on Southwest and clasp your boarding pass and wait your turn to get on the cramped 737?
If you fall into the first group then you’re rich. However, if you fall into the second group like me, then you’re hardly fall into Romney’s definition of middle income. Of course, Romney owns a Gulfstream III for he and Ann to travel on.
Ann’s horse, Rafalca requires at least $150,000 in food and upkeep. Most middle class Americans don’t own their own horse. Especially, an Olympic competition horse.
In a political season of stupid remarks, this comment by Romney ranks at the top.
I bet Romney meant this. The only poor people he’s ever known is the household staff, his gardeners and his barber. The circles he travels in, are all multimillionaires. To him, $250,000 is middle class, He’s utterly and completely out of touch with the American people. How ironic he wants our vote? I wouldn’t vote for him if you put a gun to my head.
Harry hit the nail on the head. This remark proves Romney is not suited to be president.
Romney needs to start a new Bain-like company that pillages and rapes U.S. companies and lays off hardworking employees, then sell the damaged company for a profit. You see, everything Romney touches is left in ruins.
Mitt the piece of Sh*t…. so rich, he’s out of touch with the rest of the Planet…..
Wow! What planet does Mitt live on?
I’m old enough to remember George HW Bush not knowing the price of milk. This was a defining moment and one that helped define him as out of touch with average Americans. It was also the moment of opportunity for an unknown Bill Clinton to come out of nowhere to feel our pain. Romney will be remembered for saying middle income is $250,000. Even I know better than this and I’m not running for president.
Romney makes Day Quayle sound like Einstein by comparison.
Someone should ask him if he knows how much a loaf of bread is or a gallon of milk to see how his answer comparies to Giuliani’s
What a fucking, clueless, Republican IDIOT.
Is Mitt Romney serious about this campaign? Or, is he realizing just how much work it entails to run for and be the president and as an elite not interested in grunt work, maybe Romney is trying to be the not-candidate. He can’t quit outright but he can say preposterous things that undermine his credibility with the American people.
As much as i hate to disagree with my fellow lefties, what mitt Romney said was “200, 250 thousand dollar OR LESS is middle class” We have had the truth on our side for a long time in this campaign, lets not misquote mitt. however even with that in mind, he is nuts middle class is closer ro 100, 150 thousand dollors. over 250=1% american population. 200 to 250 =3% of the american population.
