Paul Ryan: Liar, Liar, Pants on Fire

Friday, August 17, 2012

How can you tell Vice Presidential candidate Paul Ryan (R-WI) is lying? When he opens his mouth.

ABC News has the details:

After repeated denials, Paul Ryan has admitted he requested stimulus cash even after sharply criticizing the program.

Ryan denied doing so as recently as Wednesday, when he spoke to ABC’s Cincinnati affiliate, WCPO, in Ohio.

“I never asked for stimulus,” Ryan said. “I don’t recall… so I really can’t comment on it. I opposed the stimulus because it doesn’t work, it didn’t work.”

But two years ago, during an interview on WBZ’s NewsRadio he was asked by a caller if he “accepted any money” into his district. Ryan said he did not.

“I’m not one of those people who votes for something then writes to the government to ask them to send us money. I did not request any stimulus money,” the congressman answered.

But as we’ve now learned, Ryan did write letters requesting stimulus funds.

“The Olympics may be over but Paul Ryan could have gotten a gold medal in hypocrisy,” a senior administration official told ABC’s Jake Tapper. “As someone who spends all day every day railing against government spending, but then secretly seeks millions in funds for pet projects, he is as Washington as it gets.”

In 2009, Ryan wrote to Energy Secretary Steven Chu and Labor Secretary Hilda Solis asking for stimulus money to cover costs on two energy conservation projects in his home state of Wisconsin. In the letter, Ryan said the funds would help create jobs and reduce “energy consumption” in the state. At least one of the companies received the requested cash.

The letters were first obtained by The Wall Street Journal through the Freedom of Information Act back in early 2010.  The Boston Globe turned them up for the first time during this campaign season Wednesday. At that point, a Ryan aide referred ABC News back to what a Ryan spokesman said when the letters first went public.

Thursday, Ryan responded to the questions himself.

“After having these letters called to my attention I checked into them, and they were treated as constituent service requests in the same way matters involving Social Security or Veterans Affairs are handled,” Ryan said in a statement. “This is why I didn’t recall the letters earlier. But they should have been handled differently, and I take responsibility for that.

“Regardless, it’s clear the Obama stimulus did nothing to stimulate the economy, and now the President is asking to do it all over again.”

Ryan opines: “Regardless, it’s clear the Obama stimulus did nothing to stimulate the economy, and now the President is asking to do it all over again.”

So is he saying it’s President Obama’s fault is a fucking liar? Wow, just who we want a heartbeat away from the presidency.

  2. Brigadoon says:

The always get busted for lying then it’s, now that I’ve been forced to recall the events of ………, blah, blah, blah, then they try to spin it, just like Ryan tried (and failed) to do here.

  3. Joe in Colorado says:

Paul Ryan is also the sponsor of the so-called Fetal Personhood Bill which would legally define life at conception. Yeah sure, Ryan, go buy a pair of children’s Nikes for microscopic blob of flesh with no heart, brain or face.

  4. Rational, Scientific & Anti-Religious, & worried says:

As a lying Catholic, who believes geebus died for all his SINS, Ryan doesn’t believe he’s capable of being the piece of Shite he really is…………

  5. Arizona Leatherneck says:

What the hell has happened to the great state of Wisconsin?

I spent many a summers there in and around Eau Claire where my grandparents lived. They were not extremists and they would’ve never voted for Paul Ryan. When did Wisconsin become the new Texas?

What a sad comment on Wisconsin’s decline.

  6. Rational, Scientific & Anti-Religious, & worried says:

Arizona Leatherneck…. this is a reflection of the general down-turn/decline in thinking, education & the realization of what a Democratic Republic is all about. In most of America, except in the Blue States, America has reversed direction away from Freedom, and towards what the Founding Fathers hoped to guard against….. a repressive theocracy, guided by the principles of the dreaded Chrustianity…..

  7. Estacada says:

Ryan is running as a Catholic but he embraces the radical, anti-human philosophy of Ayn Rand.

At best, he’s a fallen Catholic. At worst, he’s a typical, Republican hypocrite who lies to get ahead and then blames others. Romney picked a real winner.

  8. hipolito says:

I don’t know anything about Wisconsin but I’ve read Paul Ryan’s positions on a variety of issues and he’s unquestionably a radical. Ryan would make Jesse Helms cringe.

  9. Skylar says:

If Eddie Munster were a Nazi……

  10. The Real Adam says:

There is nothing kind or compassionate about cutting Social Security and Medicare.

Paul Ryan’s radical notions of privatizing Social Security by tying it to the stock market and replacing Medicare with a voucher system would destroy America’s safety net and leave millions of seniors and disabled living in parks and under freeway overpasses. He’s despicable.

  11. Unconditional1 says:

It’s easy to spot the “shepherds leading the sheeple,” when their pants are in flames! Great post Chris! You are too witty sometimes!!

  13. Rachel says:

If Paul Ryan lied about something as fundamental as this, you have to wonder what else slipped his memory? All that exercise doesn’t seem to be helping the blood supply to his brain.

  14. DMason says:

Ryan’s own record will be his (and Mitts) undoing. Just give him a little rope.

  15. State of Wisconsin says:

//What the hell has happened to the great state of Wisconsin?//

Not sure…. we are as perplexed as anyone.

…. of all the great products (and politicians…think Feingold, LaFollette, Proxmire) I just didn’t know we produced this many assholes.

    I am soryy

  16. fran says:

“I don’t recall” Who does Ryan think he is??? Ronald Reagan?

This line, “I take responsibility for that”, is a classic from the Bush 2 playbook, all you have to do is claim to be responsible & then wash your hands clean of it.
Never take any action & certainly do not retract the lie.

  17. feminazi says:

Paul Ryan “is as Washington as it gets.” Case closed. So much for ideological purity. What do you think of that, Tea Party? By the way, has Paul Ryan ever had a non-government job and I don’t mean the lemonade stand he had when he was 10 in front of his parent’s house.
