Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan Share a Moment Aboard the USS Wisconsin

Mitt Romney’s selection of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan tells us Mitt Romney is more concerned about proving his ideological purity to the Republican base than winning the general election.

With less than 90 days until the election and Romney slipping further and further behind President Obama in the polls, Romney’s choice of Ryan, an Ayn Rand-style, budget slashing Tea Party darling, who put forth his “Path to Prosperity” plan to privatize Social Security, turn Medicare into a voucher program, while cutting government programs that help the poor.

Paul Ryan’s budget ideas are so radical that one time presidential candidate Newt Gingrich called Ryan’s budget plan “rightwing, social engineering.” Mitt Romney may have proven himself worthy to the far right and the Tea Party but, he no longer has the slightest chance of becoming the next president of the United States.

By the way, when the gaffe-prone Romney introduced the Wisconsin representative as his vice presidential running made, Romney told the crowd gathered on the USS Wisconsin, “Join me in welcoming the president of the United States, Paul Ryan.” You can’t make it up.

  1. feminazi says:

Romney is running for president of the Tea Party. He will not defeat President Obama. The choice of Paul Ryan is a political act of desperation and nothing more. The only person worse than Ryan would have been Sarah Palin. Romney is a perfectly dreadful candidate.

  2. Brigadoon says:

I guess Mitt Romney didn’t care about winning Florida?

  3. Matteo says:

Paul Ryan is a Republican hypocrite. According to Politico:

[Ryan] Already collected Social Security. After Ryan’s father passed away, he saved Social Security survivor’s benefits to pay for attending Miami University, where Ryan double majored in economics and political science in 1992.

  4. The Real Adam says:

I thought the 2012 election for president might be close.

Not now. The 2012 election for president will be a landslide victory for Obama/Biden. Election night is going to be such a joy to watch unfold!

  5. Rachel says:

Matteo – Excellent point. Paul Ryan is a hypocrite. He wants to dismantle Social Security now that he’s sucked money from the program through his dead papi. Just like US Supreme Court Justice Clarence Thomas saying he opposes Affirmative Action but he got a seat in law school courtesy of Affirmative Action.

  6. Estacada says:

Andrea Mitchell loses her voice while reacting to the Paul Ryan speech:

“This is a base election. This is not a pick for suburban moms, this is not a pick for women.”

    Truer words were never spoken.

  7. Idaho Librul says:

Paul Ryan is, allegedly, a Roman Catholic.

I was raised Catholic and trust me, his Ayn Rand-style budget is a direct assault on the elderly, the poor and disabled. There is nothing in Catholic teachings I am familiar with that teaches sacrificing these groups is acceptable doctrine. In fact, Catholic doctrine teaches it is the role of the church to help the neediest among us.

While not up to me to determine such things, if I were Paul Ryan, I would be gravely concerned over my eternal soul because his views are inconsistent with church teachings. Perhaps, Ryan is what I call a CINO: C.atholic I.n N.ame O.nly?

  8. Well, the good news about Mitt Romney’s selection of Rep. Paul Ryan to be his vice presidential running mate is, when the pair lose to President Obama and Vice President Biden on Nov. 6th, Ryan’s presidential hopes will die too.

We have to look on the bright side!

  9. ajihani says:

Not only that, Christopher but, Paul Ryan is simultaneously running for reelection to the congress. If I were a better, I would bet Ryan will lose his congressional race too. Voters don’t appreciate it when their representative reaches for the brass ring.

  10. Pechanga says:

Yaaaaaaaaaaaawn. Two, boring, wealthy white men.

Don’t these nitwits understand white Americans are becoming the minority? The U.S. is rapidly becoming more culturally and racially diverse than the U.K and nothing can stop it.

  11. Rep. Paul Ryan has an appalling voting record. Consider:

☛ Ryan received an “A” rating from the NRA.
☛ Ryan voted YES on Constitutionally defining marriage as one-man-one-woman.
☛ Ryan voted YES on banning gay adoptions in DC
☛ Ryan voted NO on enforcing against anti-gay hate crimes.
☛ Ryan voted NO on protecting free-roaming horses and burros.
☛ Ryan voted NO on four weeks of paid parental leave for federal employees.
☛ Ryan voted YES on decreasing gun waiting period from 3 days to 1 day.
☛ Ryan voted NO on strengthening the Social Security Trust Fund.

  12. Seabec says:

As usual, your blogging on the Paul Ryan VP selection and the time you’ve taken to educate and inform your readers about his bigoted congressional voting record, is one of the reasons I read you blog everyday. Thanks, buddy.

  13. retahyajyajav says:

The USS Mitt Romney is sinking fast. Nothing can save it now.

  14. Bill Hussein O'Reilly says:

So Paul Ryan’s voting record basically makes him Michele Bachmann with a penis?

  15. fran says:

The buzz is Romney just handed Obama a huge election gift.
Having never held elected Stte office & virtually zero foreign policy experience.
Besides the lack of experience, Ryan is one of those guys who talks the deficit reduction talk- but voted
    • for the war
    • for the tax cuts for the wealthy
    • for privatizing Social Security
& wants to seriously mess with Medicare.

Overall, I would say Romnay & Ryan ARE free-roaming horses asses and burros!

Looks like Mitt decided he’d rather be a tax dodging multi billionaire, so he chose this loser for VP to sabotage his own campaign. Then he will be free to run for high office in the Cayman Islands as the richest guy & they can get on with spending $77,000 a year on one dressage horse & not have to deal with financial disclosure & scrutiny.

Feminazi~ The word “dreadful” came to mind for me too.

I wonder if Mitt requires his running mate to wear magic mormon underwear?

  16. Harry says:

I wonder if Mr. Ryan will have to travel strapped to the top of Willard’s campaign jet? After all, if it was good enough for Seamus, it is good enough for Ryan.

  17. VicoDANIEL says:

Common wisdom says the function of a vice president is to attend funerals of state leaders and cast the tie-breaking vote should the congress go 50/50.

But there’s another function of a vice president. Remember in 2008 when Hillary Clinton ran the ad criticizing Obama for not being ready to take “the 3 a.m. crisis call a president may have to answer?”

No one can deny Joe Biden is ready for that call if God forbid, something happened to President Obama. But can anyone imagine Rep. Paul Ryan taking that 3 a.m. crisis call if Romney became incapacitated? He would have to consult his Ayn Rand books before making a decision.

I think Hillary hit the nail on the proverbial head. This is the real litmus test for vice president and Ryan isn’t anywhere capable of rising to the challenge.

  18. Rachel says:

Bill Hussein O’Reilly – What makes you think Michele Bachmann doesn’t have a penis?

  19. Mets Fan says:

Interesting. Paul Ryan is a seven term US House member. He’s never had a private industry job.

That’s right. His entire career has been spent suckling at the government’s teat. Taking advantage of automatic COLAs, benefits for himself and family, the Congressional gym, and discount airline fares.

  20. Randy Arroyo says:

Romney will score points among Teabaggers and fiscal conservatives with the Ryan pick. But they do not represent the vast majority of the American electorate and with the General Election just 88 days from now, Romney has yet to figure out how to connect with people who don’t have six homes and millions of dollars in off-shore accounts.

  21. Arizona Leatherneck says:

Paul Ryan is heavily influenced by Ayn Rand — a crackpot philosopher who wrote that the rich are morally superior beings from whom the government and the poor are trying to destroy.

No wonder Mitt Romney selected Ryan as his running mate.

  22. Get ready to see more “Who is John Galt?” signs at Romney rallies. *shakes head*

  23. Joe in Colorado says:

Ayn Rand titled one of her books “The Virtue of Selfishness.” This is a poisoned ticket. Case closed.

  24. TOM339 says:

I am confused. How can a deeply religious man like Mitt Romney select a veep running mate who embraces Ayn Rand?

Rand wanted to replace belief in God with belief in money. Wealth was her religion. Rand, if I recall my college course on 20th century American lit correctly, rejected all forms of organized religion.

At some point, Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan will have to explain the disconnect.

  25. Rational, Scientific & Anti-Religious, & worried says:

Mitt Romney & Paul Ryan…. Crawl back up your Momma’s asses, out of which you were born, you disgusting pieces of SHIT!!!!!

  26. Woodcliffe says:

Ayn Ryan railed against government benefits but in her twilight years, happily took advantage of Social Security. Paul Ryan published a budget that privatizes Social Security but went to college using his dead daddy’s Social Security benefits. Are you beginning to detect a trend here? Paul Ryan, like Ayn Rand, is a hypocrite. If this is the best Mitt Romney can do, he may go down in history as man who destroyed the Republican party. Suits me fine.

  27. hipolito says:

“Corporations are people, my friend.” – Willard “Mitt” Romney.

  28. Rational, Scientific & Anti-Religious, & worried says:

On January 29th 1970, Mrs Ryan had a terrible case of Diarrhea……and Paul was born……..

  29. Shayne K. says:

I can’t wait for the debates. Joe Biden is a formidable debater and will eviscerate this little pipsqueak Paul Ryan.
