Mitt Romney’s selection of Wisconsin Rep. Paul Ryan tells us Mitt Romney is more concerned about proving his ideological purity to the Republican base than winning the general election.
With less than 90 days until the election and Romney slipping further and further behind President Obama in the polls, Romney’s choice of Ryan, an Ayn Rand-style, budget slashing Tea Party darling, who put forth his “Path to Prosperity” plan to privatize Social Security, turn Medicare into a voucher program, while cutting government programs that help the poor.
Paul Ryan’s budget ideas are so radical that one time presidential candidate Newt Gingrich called Ryan’s budget plan “rightwing, social engineering.” Mitt Romney may have proven himself worthy to the far right and the Tea Party but, he no longer has the slightest chance of becoming the next president of the United States.
By the way, when the gaffe-prone Romney introduced the Wisconsin representative as his vice presidential running made, Romney told the crowd gathered on the USS Wisconsin, “Join me in welcoming the president of the United States, Paul Ryan.” You can’t make it up.
