New Jersey Gov. Chris “Fatso” Christie (R), “conditionally vetoed the gay marriage bill and suggested appointing an ombudsman to address complaints from same-sex couples and strengthen New Jersey’s civil union’s law,” the Newark Star Ledger reports.
Christie is on the wrong side of history. He’s an embarrassment to his state. I read an article that said 54% of New Jersey residents support same sex marriage. He no longer represents the people who elected him governor. I sure hope he is kicked out of office over this decision.
Christie is a coward. He thinks vetoing marriage will help him win the presidency in 2016. Imagine that? Another politician exploiting the LGBT community for political expediency? Has Chris Barron weighed in on this yet? He usually has his nose up the rectum of every Republican politician.
Separate but, equal? Seriously? In 2012?
The New Jersey Assembly can override the veto with 2/3rds vote. I hope next week they do just that and school this fat bastard about equality. I don’t pretend to understand how the voters of the Garden State ever elected this clown in the first place.
Looking at past veto overturn efforts in Jersey, Christie is unstoppable. The only way to get marriage equality accomplished is to vote lard ass out of office and send him packing which is no small feat considering his massive size.
Does New Jersey have cattle transport trucks?
Christie has his eye on 2016. From now on, he does what the RNC tells him to do.
Separate is NOT equal.
Come on, New Jersey. Get rid of Christie. He’s an embarrassment to your state. Worse than MTV’s The Jersey Shore and that mess. Elect a Dem next time.
One of my favorite equal rights protest signs reads:
I didn’t ask her to “Civil Union” me.
Let’s be honest & say a Civil Union is not the same as a marriage.
But Christie uses this excuse–
“The issue “should not be decided by 121 people in the statehouse in Trenton.”
He has advocated putting the issue to a referendum. (pass the buck)
“I continue to encourage the Legislature to trust the people of New Jersey and seek their input by allowing our citizens to vote on a question that represents a profoundly significant societal change,” Christie said in a statement. “I have been just as adamant that same-sex couples in a civil union deserve the very same rights and benefits enjoyed by married couples, as well as the strict enforcement of those rights and benefits.”
Very same, yet very different?
Classic politician doublespeak.
When the final chapter on the struggle for LGBT rights in the USA is written by historians, politicians like Gov. Chris Christie will find himself on the wrong side of the battle.
Much like George Wallace.
Chris Christie, the pride of New Jersey can here forth be known as the Notorious B.I.G.O.T.
Being from New Jersey, I am mortified that this excuse for a human being is our governor. I agree with Fran – separate is not equal. And I also do not believe the majority should be voting on civil rights for the minority! New Jersey last voted on an issue of civil rights in 1915 – when they voted DOWN women’s suffrage.
I’m a Jersey Boy through and through,….Chris Christie is the bomb.No wusses allowed!!!!
