Rick Perry’s Funds Have Dried Up Like a West Texas Tumbleweed

Friday, November 18, 2011

TX Gov. Rick “I’m a Prophet” Perry famously told his flock to pray for rain to ease the state’s relentless drought. But drought is the least of his troubles. Apparently, Perry’s campaign lacks the money to survive the first three state contests of the 2012 election calendar: Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

The Houston Chronicle reports:

Texas Gov. Rick Perry’s campaign fundraising has gone into a tailspin as a result of poor debate performances and plunging poll numbers, jeopardizing his position as the best-funded Republican presidential candidate of 2012.

Perry’s associates and supporters say his campaign has redoubled its money-raising efforts in the past week to ensure that his campaign will have enough money to survive the first three contests of the 2012 election calendar: Iowa, New Hampshire and South Carolina.

But Perry’s loyal backers are running into resistance from Republican donors. One Perry fundraiser, who asked not to be named, said he received 15 RSVPs for a recent event from potential donors saying they might attend. But after a gaffe-marred Perry debate performance, none showed up.

“The debates have taken a toll,” the fundraiser said. “The national numbers have taken a toll. People see the campaign on a negative trajectory.”

As Herman Cain’s fortunes wane, I wonder if Perry will crawl to them and ask for donations?

  2. Marcus Ybanez says:

It’s a wonder this moron thinks he can win the Republican nomination and be elected president.

One good thing about George W. Bush is, his election managed to kill any possibility of electing another president from the Lone Star State for at minimum, the next 50 years. The voters hear the ‘Texas Twang’ and run the opposite direction as fast as they can.

  3. Rachel says:

In politics, no one backs a loser unless they want to lose. Rick Perry is an epic loser. He needs to go home to Texas where they worship him. He’s no more of a national candidate than I am.

  4. Joe in Colorado says:

Anita Perry wants to be First Lady so she pushed her hubby into the race. But Anita’s dream ain’t going to come true. Anita is wildly ambitious — akin to Eva Peron and Jiang Qing. She wanted to ride her husband’s coattails to the White House and plant a flag of Texas in the Rose Garden. Poor Anita, so hungry for fame and notoriety but destined to a lesser life in Dallas.

  5. Estacada says:

Rick the Dumbfuck could always sell some of his incredibly valuable Louis XIV style furniture to fund his campaign.

This Texas Hillbilly is really just a fancy-pants pretending to be one of us common folk.

  6. Jim says:

It couldn’t happen to a more deserving dolt.

  7. One Fly says:

He can come back – I know he can. His message comes from god so he can’t be as bad as you make this dick out to be.

  8. Bill Hussein O'Reilly says:

    Queen Anita of Niggerhead Ranch.

  9. Fran says:

Perhaps he should just *forget* about presidential aspirations?

  10. Walk on Socks says:

Now Perry is trying to raise money by claiming Obama grew up privileged and implying he is the product of an elitist upbringing.

Let’s see. Father left at 2 years of age. Raised by a single mother. Handed off to his grandparents so his mother could complete college. Worked part-time jobs and scholarships to pay for college. Yeah, sounds like John F. Kennedy.

Rick Perry is the dumbest motherfucker in the GOP field. An epic dope.

  11. The Real Adam says:

    I have a suggestion?

Ricky Perry could give tours of Niggerhead Ranch. Charge an entrance fee, pose for pictures, sell Mexican-imported Mammy dolls, squirrel elixir and Niggerhead rock souvenir key chains. I’m sure there are 200,000 dumb-ass Texans interested in forking over $25 to take the tour. That would bring in $5 million.

  12. DMason says:

The Real Adam – Don’t give Perry any ideas. I’ve head he reads the opinion blogs!

  13. feminazi says:

Donors don’t bet on losers. Even if you have Koch Brothers money. Rick Perry is a loser and he is stuck in the single digit-range in every poll I’ve seen. The fact of the matter is, the public sees Rick Perry for who he is, a Texas dolt, with little smarts and a bad tempter. He won’t last much longer.
