President Obama is a hypocrite. If you don’t think then you haven’t been paying close attention.
For example, when it comes to marriage equality, Obama recently expressed support for New York legalizing marriage for same-sex couples, saying, “New York is doing exactly what democracies are supposed to do.”
However, when it concerns the U.S.’s burgeoning medical marijuana industry, Obama is all about the power of the Federal government, ordering landlords to evict tenants operating medical pot dispensaries, the forfeiture of the property and even imprisonment.
The most shocking tactic used by the Obama administration to addle the 16 states and the District of Columbia with medical marijuana laws is the enforcement of an obscure portion of the IRS tax code — section 280E, of passed by Congress in 1982, at the height of Reagan administration’s “war on drugs.” Section 280E targeted drug kingpins and cartels and bans any tax deductions related to “trafficking in controlled substances.”
Across the country, medical marijuana dispensaries are being audited by the IRS at the direction of the Obama administration at an alarming pace. Reps. Pete Stark (D-CA), Barney Frank (D-MA), and Jared Polis (D-CO), have introduced legislation to ensure the medical marijuana industry is treated like any other business.
If the legislation fails to pass, people suffering from MS, HIV/AIDS, Parkinson’s and cancer patients hard-hit by the side effects of chemotherapy will be forced back to the black market.
So much for states rights.
