Gallup: Obama Drops to 26% on His Handling of the Economy

Wednesday, August 17, 2011

President Obama’s poll numbers appear to be in free fall.

The latest Gallup poll shows Obama hitting a new low of 26% approval on his handling of the economy, down 11 points since it was last measured in mid-May and well below his previous low of 35% in November 2010.

Obama earns similarly low approval for his handling of the Federal budget deficit at 24% and on creating jobs Obama scores 29%.

The president and his family are spending their summer vacation in a $50,000 a week farm on Martha’s Vineyard paid for by the U.S. taxpayers.

  1. Eric Equality Kuntz says:

There is no way Obama will be reelected with numbers like this.

Bush exploited the Iraq war to win his election to a second term but the US Congress is weary of war and debt and borrowing. Obama has nothing he can exploit. It’s over.

  2. Abbey Peripatetic says:

Issue number one in 2008? Jobs.
Issue number one in 2009? Jobs.
Issue number one in 2010? Jobs.
Issue number one in 2011? Jobs.

Why can’t Obama hear the American people? I don’t get it. Is he so removed from regular people that he’s become tone deaf?

  3. Jolly Roger says:

Geez. I wonder what would happen if he got up off his knees and actually stood up to Boehner and McConnell?

  4. Robyn says:

I don’t see why Obama is wasting his time campaigning for a second term. It’s not likely Independents will vote for him this time around.

  5. Adirondacky says:

I had to laugh yesterday. Obama’s team said he is going to announce some big ass jobs program after he comes back from 10 days on Martha’s Vineyard. This guy is every bit the elitist as was George W. Bush. But like Robyn said. What’s the point? There isn’t going to be a second term so why bother? Just stay on Martha’s Vineyard until Congress gets back after Labor Day and enjoy bilking the tax payers for the time spent on the island.

  6. Randy Arroyo says:

These are scary numbers for any president but especially for one trying to win his bid for reelection. The experts say high unemployment is expected to persist through at least the end of next year. Reelection seems more and more unlikely for Mr. Obama.

  7. Bel Ami says:

Obama was at some bus stop blathering on about it being the fault of congress for his failure to create jobs. I was like dude, stop blaming congress and tell it like it is: Republicans in congress are the brickwall getting in the way of a new jobs program. Why can’t this president ever call out Republicans on their bullshit? What is he so afraid of? Obama is a pussy and frankly, I’m just fed up with him.

  8. Nigel Karsten says:

Forgive me but your president has spent the better part of the last three years kissing the butts of the Republican party and to what avail? What has it gotten him other than a kick around his ear hole.

Mr. Obama needs to act independently and force the Republican’s hand. Shame them and take his case to the people until the people pressure the representatives.

As much as he wants to think otherwise, Barack Obama isn’t Martin Luther King, Jr.

  9. Jolly Roger says:

He ain’t Harry S. Truman, who faced similar challenges and wiped the floor with Rushpubliscum asses. He’s more like Mister Rogers, or Van Driessen from “Beavis and Butthead.” In this environment, those guys finish last.

  10. feminazi says:

Those are horrendous numbers. At this late point in the game, I just can’t see any path for Obama to turn things around. Every time a new jobs report comes out the news is bleak and jobs are what the American people say they care the most about. Not national healthcare, not the debt and not national security.

  11. Woodcliffe says:

I looks like the African American community is abandoning Obama over jobs too.

Black, professional unemployment is three times higher than white professional unemployment. The Congressional Black Caucus has begged Obama to address this but he’s ignored them. Big mistake. Did you hear Rep. Maxine Waters on TV yesterday? Ouch!

  12. distributorcap says:

obama is a terrible president and even worse leader – he has done nothing to turn around the country, but has been GREAT at bowing to the republican overlords.

problem is the GOP field is such a joke – despite his pitiful performance makes him look like Katharine Hepburn to a bunch of Tara Reids

i am afraid that we are going to be stuck with his lousy skills and phony speeches for four more years – what we need is someone to primary him
