Harry Belafonte: “Barack Obama has Failed”

Friday, July 29, 2011

Legendary Harry Belafonte, the subject of a new HBO documentary about political activism was asked what he would say to the White House about the national debt battle.

The King of Calypso minced no words:

“Barack Obama and his mission has failed because [he] lacked a certain kind of moral courage, a kind of moral vision, a kind of courage we are in need of. When he said ‘Yes, we can,’ it was politically clever, but he never defined what it is we can do. So we filled in those spaces — what we thought he meant — only to find we were disappointed, because none of those points was satisfied.”

  1. Debbie Banuelos says:

    Oops! Brother criticizing Brother?

You don’t see that very often. But Harry Belafonte is not only a superb artist, but a tireless political activist who embraced civil rights issues long before Obama’s mother dragged him to Indonesia.

Mr. Belafonte is correct. Obama lacks the moral verisimilitude needed to navigate the troubling political waters that lie ahead.

  2. Jim says:

So, so true. What a disaster for the American people. Time to move on with new and REAL leadership.

  3. Unconditional1 says:

Barack could have been a major mover and shaker as Presidents go, but he turned out to be more of a Clyde Kadiddlehopper. He could have introduced legislation, that would have given the American people something around which, they could have rallied. Something like medical marijuana, industrial hemp, alternative sources of green chemistry…but in the end, crickets. Big fizzle, like a firework dud.

  4. Seabec says:

Maybe I’m alone here but I really don’t get the impression that Obama likes being president. He may enjoy the perks but, when it comes down to the day-to-day, hard work of leading the nation, he’s not present. Maybe the idea of being president was better than actually being president?

  5. DMason says:

I guess the Belafontes won’t be getting a Christmas card from the Obamas this year.

  6. Randy Arroyo says:

Harry Belafonte is old school. Very old school. When Oprah and Beyonce turn on his O-Ness, then you will know his goose is cooked. But still, it’s fairly significant to see a prominent black person say something this strong about Obama.

  7. Robyn says:

Harry Belafonte is spot on. Obama is as good as done. Get rid of the faux Republican and get ready for a real one in ’12.

  8. Unconditional1 says:

So far, the GOP/Tea Baggers have not produced a competent contender who could go toe-to-toe with the “Obamer,” in the center of the political ring. Most of their candidates are lightweights better suited for school board positions, except of course for the Creationism as Science gibberish, disqualifying their candidates for those positions also.

  9. TOM339 says:

Washington is playing with fire and I mean real fire.

Obama threatens 65 million SSI and SSDI recipients with bogus threats they won’t receive their checks next month, leaving millions wondering how they will pay their rent and buy food. Does this president honestly believe 65 million Americans will go quietly to the gas chambers?

I can easily see civil unrest and a revolution unfolding in August. The Washington elites have lit a fuse and pushed 1/6ths of the nation into a corner. Watch out because this time, our elected lawmakers and this president have gone too far.

  10. Unconditional1 says:

Tom339, this is called political posturing. Playing hardball with softballs, maybe even a little political rhetoric, mixed in for effect. While Barack may be a “Clyde Kadiddlahopper,” he still knows who is buttering his bread. This is high-stakes poker, and the Tea-Baggers are upping the ante, so no one can read anything into this charade. Have a little patience as this storm is not “perfect,” and will blow itself out, soon enough.

  11. ultragreen says:

If Obama thinks that he can bully SSDI and SSI recipients and their advocates into accepting deep cutbacks in the programs that benefit them, then he is quite delusional. He underestimates their intelligence. They will NOT support him when he’s up for re-election if this is done.

  12. Sayingwhatneedsaying says:

Barack, Slave Boy, Obama has got to go…………………………… He should be Tarred & Feathered & ridden out of town on a hand-cart.
