As if he’s giving the victims Pan Am flight 103 a big “Fuck You”, Abdelbaset Ali Mohmet al-Megrahi, convicted for life in the 1988 Lockerbie bombing, made his first public appearance in nearly two years at a pro-Kadaffi rally in Tripoli.
Megrahi, 59, who allegedly has terminal cancer, was inexplicably released by a judge from a Scottish jail on compassionate grounds in August 2009. He is the only person convicted in the bombing of Pan Am flight 103, killing 270 people, mostly American citizens.
The Boeing 747 exploded in midair, breaking in several pieces before crashing onto the small Scottish village of Lockerbie below. The passenger manifest included many high school and college students from New York and New Jersey.
Television images showed Megrahi on Tuesday, sitting in a wheelchair, at a rally of his tribe in support of the embattled Kadaffi regime.
