As Obama Plays Golf, U.S.-Led Forces Kill Nine Civilians in Libya

Sunday, June 19, 2011

As President Obama spent a leisurely Saturday playing golf with GOP Speaker John Boehner, U.S.-led NATO forces killed nine Libyan civilians — including two toddlers.

NATO said it was “very sorry” if that were the case.

Wing Commander Mike Bracken said:

“NATO is looking into this matter. NATO was operating in Tripoli last night, conducting air strikes against a legitimate military target.”

Like civilians?

Earlier in the day, journalists had been shown the bodies of five people, one of them a woman and two of them toddlers.

Libyan state officials called the attack a “sign of brutality of the West.”

Killing women and children. How disgusting. The US needs to get the hell out of Libya. If Obama won’t stop this madness, then the Congress should move to impeach him. This is not where I want my tax dollars spent.

  2. Hi Feminazi,

I hear ya.’ This NATO/US moron said they were “conducting air strikes against a legitimate military target.”

Do innocent civilian men, women and toddlers? Please, someone explain to me and to my readers, how this act in any way, shape, or form, hastens the demise of Muammar al-Gaddafi?

No wonder the world loathes the USA. We’re the terrorist nation.

  3. Joe in Colorado says:

The U.S. is addicted to violence and war. We spend vast sums of taxpayer dollars to buy the latest air fighters, build billion dollar aircraft carriers, and nuclear submarines. America must always have an enemy because we’re a warrior nation with a culture of violence. I predict this is result in our eventual destruction. Greece, Rome, the USSR and then, the U.S. The irony is, it never had to be this way. My heart goes out to the people of Libya.

  4. TOM339 says:

I guess today won’t be a Happy Father’s Day for the father(s) of the two toddlers US/NATO forces slaughtered.

Until this, I was reluctant to sign-on to calls to impeach Obama but my opinion has changed. I cannot support a president who plays military General in order to curry favor with conservatives and independents at the expense of innocent, foreign civilians.

As a father of two, I can’t begin to wrap my brain around what these poor folks are going through.

    Obama must go.

  5. ajihani says:

Apparently, much of the American military attack was concentrated in Tripoli’s Arada district. Arada is in eastern Tripoli. Bodies were seen being pulled from the remnants of residential homes.

None of this passes the smell test. People familiar with Libya know Arada is in eastern Tripoli. Gaddafi’s complex is the Bab el-Aziza compound, located in the heart of central Tripoli. There is no compelling reason for US to bomb anywhere near Arada. This is a civilian neighborhood. The only reason I can think is to create terror in the hearts and minds of the already-burdened Libyan people.

  6. Hi ajihani,

I know nothing of Tripoli geography so I really appreciate your insight. I’ve never traveled to Libya and now with what Obama is doing to them, I doubt I ever will.

Are you from Libya? I am grateful for your contribution to this Blog.

  7. Harry says:

Obama loves the Libyan people so much he has to kill them just a little.

  8. Marcus Ybanez says:

This is very tragic and completely unnecessary.

However, it’s just the next page in Obama’s newest narrative that he hopes establishes him as a bona fide military commander and not just an arugula-munching, Harvard academic.

  9. fran says:

Well, according to Pelosi & Obama, as long as there are no boots on the ground, this is not a war.
These deaths are just collateral damage, and no worries about the billion + spent “saving Libya” from a brutal dictator.

Is it just me, or do we only intervene in oil rich countries??

Otherwise places like Rowanda & Darfur need no intervention because they have no oil to speak of??

  10. Ypsilanti says:

I’m struggling to wrap my head around this. Are we to believe awarding Obama with a Nobel Peace Prize means he has license to direct the U.S. military to carry out such carnage? If so, then, we are doomed and so are the peoples of the Middle East, Northern Africa and Central Asia.

Fran is right. It’s Libya and not Syria, where the real humanitarian disaster is unfolding. But Libya has oil and Syria does not.

  11. Debbie Banuelos says:

I thought it was the job of NATO to protect people? O-Bummer has managed to fuck this up too.

  12. The Real Adam says:

I’m sure Obama will say, if he makes an increasingly rare appearance before the White House press corp, that those nine innocent Libyans were warned to evacuate and ignored NATO warnings, implying they got what was coming to them.

After all, our bombs are peaceful, loving bombs.

  13. Vivzz says:

In war, it is the women and children who always pay a heavy price.

  14. Shayne K. says:

How awful. Two toddlers? This is on Obama’s lap now.

  15. stradella says:

    Solidarity brother, Christopher.

Obama is a reckless clown and a major disappointment to many Americans, including African Americans who expected someone else. Obama’s first term feels an awful lot like Bush’s third term. It’s as if we’re in some sort of galactic time warp and got lost.

This sister is very, very disappointed in Obama.

  16. mschader says:

I pray God has his vengeance on the men at the top who are responsible.
Responsible? They do not behave responsibly.
How can we let these people lead us? Are we not somewhat responsible for our leaders?
