Historian Douglas Brinkley Calls on NBC to Drop Trump, Sponsors to Pull Ads

Wednesday, April 27, 2011

This is getting interesting.

Historian and author Douglas Brinkley pinned the blame for the reemergence of the birther issue on NBC Entertainment for giving New York City real estate blowhard Donald Trump, a primetime platform. Brinkley called on NBC to immediately drop Trump’s show, The Apprentice, from its lineup. If NBC decides to keep Trump on the air, Brinkley called on corporate sponsors to pull their ads or face a massive consumer boycotts:

We don’t have to blame “the media” for dealing with this issue. We have to blame NBC Entertainment. They need to dump Trump from his primetime news show. He’s a poison toad on the airwaves. What corporate sponsor is going to be buying ad time for Donald Trump’s show. Any company that goes into Trump and is willing to pay is going to find consumer boycott like they’ve never seen before. If you are going to do what Trump did and go after the President of the United States in such a grotesque and disingenuous way you better cough up the goods. Today the Obama administration has shown what a charlatan Donald Trump really is.

  1. Yes! Yes! Yes! Dump Trump! Stop the madness! Get off the Crazy Train for gawd-almighty’s sake! Pu-leeze!

  2. DMason says:

Makes perfect sense to me. I never understood why NBC gave this loud, crass, loony billionaire a forum to push his name. Trump’s a huckster. A carnival barker and he should return to Manhattan and the audience that appreciates such coarseness.

  3. Tiny Dancer says:

I agree, David Mason! Trump is loud, crass and course.

In fact, I’m writing to NBC Entertainment DEMANDING they pull the plug on ‘The Apprentice’ and ‘Celebrity Apprentice.’ If they don’t, I’ll boycott their sponsors.

  4. Estacada says:

NBC is owned now by Comcast. Are they not?

AG Eric Holder, if he gets off his ass, could make things very difficult for Comcast going forward if they renew another season of one or both of these Trump ego-fodder shows.

The best thing for NBC and Comcast is just make this season the last season and then Trump can do something really stoopid like run for New York City mayor where I’m sure he will be elected.

  5. Marcus Ybanez says:

    I guess I have a different perspective.

As the leader of the free world, I simply don’t understand why President Obama chose to engage the Birthers in the first place? When he became the Democratic nominee, the FBI vetted him, going back as far as his grade school years and moving forward to his marriage and election to the US Senate.

I wonder when it ends? If Birther nation demands to see Obama’s circumcision record, will he have the White House physician snap a picture of the First Junk and Obama will send it out to the MSM, or Trump or (gulp) Palin? I know Obama is as weak as they come but, he needs to stop allowing these nutcases to program his ride.

  6. Jolly Roger says:

I have never seen an episode of The Dullard’s show, since I was aware of his tendencies to go bankrupt and thought that anyone who would apprentice with this asshat was looking to fail. Of course, I never will see one of his stupid shows now.

  7. Arizona Leatherneck says:

NBC is making money from Trump and at the same time, providing him with a forum to keep his ugly face in front of the public.

If he runs for president, this amounts to advertising outside of FEC rules.

  8. Wendy Atkin says:

Does anyone have a full list of sponsors of the show. I am boycotting the ones I know about.Like 7up,dr pepper, snapple, omaha steaks, camping world, farouk hair systems,Australian Gold,Acn.Saveur Magazine.
