Why is Former Congressman Bob Barr Advising Baby Doc Duvalier

Sunday, January 23, 2011

Former U.S. congressman Bob Barr, is advising Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier how to unlock frozen funds in Swiss banks after Duvalier fled to France amid a 1986 rebellion.

Baby Doc Duvalier “is very interested in trying to get those funds freed up, not for himself, but so they can be used to help the situation in Haiti,” Barr said by phone from Port-au-Prince yesterday. Barr is a Republican who served in Congress from 1995-2003 and ran for president on the Libertarian ticket in 2008.

Barr accompanied Baby Dock Duvalier on Jan. 21, as the former dictator made his first public comments since his Jan. 16 return to his earthquake ravaged homeland after 25-years in exile. Also accompanying Duvalier were two other American lawyers, Ed Marger of Jasper, GA, and Mike Puglise of Snellville, GA, according to a statement issued by Barr’s office.

The 59-year-old Duvalier apologized to victims of human rights abuses during his 15-year reign of terror. Appointed president of Haiti for life by father, the dictator Francois Duvalier, also known as “Papa Doc.” According to Human Rights Watch, the Duvaliers murdered between 20,000 to 30,000 Haitians, many at the hands of the brutal Tonton Macoutes secret police,

It is unclear why former U.S. congressman Bob Barr would be interested in assisting a monstrous individual like Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier but, his actions certainly warrant an investigation by the U.S. Department of Justice.

Christopher, thank you for keeping up with the developments concerning Baby Doc’s return to Haiti.

Bob Barr should remember that it reflects on what kind of asshole he is by the company he keeps, and he’s keeping company with one of the more brutal SOB’s the 20th century produced.

  2. TOM339 says:

Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier slaughtered 30,000 Haitians.

Now Bob Barr is helping him unlock a Swiss bank account containing more than $7 million is ill-gotten monies? Why hasn’t the state of Georgia disbarred him from practicing law?

    Seems fairly simple to me.

  3. Vivzzz says:

Water always finds its own level. Rep. Bob Barr would defend a pedophile murderer if the price is right. He gives a bad name to everyone in America who practices law. Rest assured, if Baby Doc gets this money unfrozen thanks to the efforts of the Georgia Republican, he will be compensated.

  4. Think says:

Barr simply represents that larger American hypocrisy–a hypocrisy, by the way, that supported Papa Doc and Baby Doc and also through the CIA’s extraordinary rendition program kidnapped Aristide and flew him out of Haiti to Africa where he remains in exile.

The U.S. has made it clear that Aristide, a Haitian citizen, cannot return to his own country.

Baby Doc could not leave France without the approval of the Americans and France.

Moreover, the U.S. government, not to mention American big business, has partnered with dictators and strongmen all over the world so long as what is deemed as American interests are served.

The Obama administration just hosted the president of China; yet, will not normalize relations with Cuba, which is 90 miles off the shores of Miami.

As Americans, all we can do is hold our nose. There is nothing else we can do.

    Republicans are scum. No exceptions.

  6. Jolly Roger says:

Meanwhile, our own Duvaliers are trying to figure out how to install Jeb in the White House.

The more things change and all that.

  7. Thanks for posting such informative article. It is necessary to be advised, especially when he is already a mentor to you. It is really needed for some instances such as he knows a lot of things rather than you; let us just say that they are already in service for how many years. Since, Bob Barr might have brilliant idea that he wants to share with Jean-Claude “Baby Doc” Duvalier. Nice article. Keep on posting such astonishing article.

Bob Barr is a real piece of work.

Why isn’t “Baby Doc” locked up?
