Elizabeth Edwards, Gone too Soon

Wednesday, December 8, 2010

Elizabeth Edwards lost her battle with breast cancer yesterday. She died at 10:15AM at home in Chapel Hill, NC.

She was, in my opinion, the better half of the Elizabeth and John Edwards union. An accomplished woman in her own right, Elizabeth Edwards was a lawyer, activist and an outspoken advocate for LGBT rights.

Speaking at a Human Rights Campaign event in San Francisco in 2007, she spoke out in support of same-sex marriage, against the ridiculous “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” policy and in favor of a national hate crimes bill, citing Matthew Shepard. Many believe she was the first presidential-candidate’s wife to take these unabashedly liberal positions.

Thank you, Elizabeth for your support. Sail on and may you have a steady wind to guide you along the rest of your voyage.

I liked her enormously too. She seemed to be a truly decent woman. How is it that the women politicians marry always out shine their husbands? I can think of at least a dozen women married to lawmakers and presidents who seem more qualified to carry out the duties of the job. I didn’t know how great Elizabeth Edwards was on gay rights. This makes me like her even more. She will be missed.

I hope Johnny Boy is happy now.

He can begin the mea culpa tour starting with Oprah, then Charlie Rose and ending up with Rachel Maddow. I can just imagine it. “I loved Elizabeth for 30 years and even though our marriage failed……,” I feel myself beginning to throw up already.

Has Ann Coulter or Sarah Palin weighed in yet, offering some ugly remark about this kind woman’s passing?

A woman of class and valor.

I agree, feminazi! Think of all the First Ladies who out distanced and out shined their hubbies: Lady Bird, Pat Nixon, Michele Obama. Even Pickles Bush is better than her idiot husband. These men marry up. The exception is Nancy Reagan and her voodoo cards and Babs Bush and her fetus in the jar in the kitchen.

  5. R.J. Lawson says:

She was one of the reasons why I would have voted for John Edwards in the last election, but he dropped out soon after getting thumped in his home state and then we first heard about baby momma Rielle.

    Elizabeth was an amazing woman.

  6. Woodcliffe,

I’m wondering the same thing. The Evileens, Coulter and Palin, are all about kicking people when they’re down (or dead), so I fully expect to see they’ve had some nasty comment to make about Elizabeth Edwards.

Elizabeth Edwards was much more pro-gay than her husband. In fact, Sen. John Edwards was stuck in the late-70’s vis a vis gay rights. He said he was “evolving” on gay rights. Elizabeth, was already evolved. I liked her a lot.
