Zogby: Obama Falls to 39%, As Support from Democrats Continues to Slide

Tuesday, November 23, 2010

President Obama’s fortunes continue on a downward spiral.

The president’s job approval rating has dropped to the lowest point of his presidency at 39%, and in potential match-ups with Republicans in 2012, he trails Mitt Romney, Jeb Bush and Newt Gingrich and is just one point ahead of Sarah Palin.

The percentage of likely voters saying the U.S. is on the wrong track is now the highest since Obama took office at 69%.

The President continues to lose the job approval of Democrats, going from 78% on Nov. 15 to 72% in this Nov. 19-22, 2010 interactive poll. His approval among independents stayed at 39%, and is 6% among Republicans.

I’ve said it, the pundits have said it, and Christopher said it: Jobs. Where are the jobs?

If the jobs picture in America was just only slightly improved from where it is now, Obama would find himself in better shape with the citizens of this nation.

But you can’t have nearly 10% unemployment year after year and expect to be embraced by a nation in the throes of economic death.

  2. Brigadoon says:

It took Bush 6 years to drop to the 30’s. Obama got there in two years. This is stunning and doesn’t bode well for 2012. Where are the Democrats? Do they have a challenger to go up against Obama in 2012 or do they plan to back this loser president? If they do, it’s going to be a bloodbath. Say hello, President-elect Palin.

  3. Pechanga says:

Obama no longer inspires confidence in the American people.

Once you lose this, it is very difficult to get it back. You can only take the “America’s first black president” meme so far before the check bounces. I think this is where Obama finds himself.

  4. R.J. Lawson says:

Obusha is worse than Jimmy Carter. Be prepared for a Republican president. The Democrats as a whole do not have the spine or the intestinal fortitude to get the job done.

  5. Jolly Roger says:

Don’t put too much weight in a Zogby poll.

Having said that, Saint Ronnie faced similar pressures, and came out smelling like a rose. With his opposition in the form of “Junket John” Boehner, I suspect this President will see a similar enhancement of his image.

  6. mipolitico says:

Obama has gone on for far too long w/o a major win. DADT, DREAM Act, continued inaction on trade policy, and of course things are only going to worse when the GOP takes over in January. Yes, he did have major accomplishments but when things continue to not get passed and signed into law, including the most basic of things, it is certainly hard to approve of even with a proper view on the limitations of the Executive Branch.

  7. Chad Lebanon says:

    J.O.B.S.

    Nuff said.

  8. Scott Dancer says:

Gas prices up .24 cents this Thanksgiving over last year.
    Credit card interest up.
    Food prices up.
Home heating costs higher this year over last year.
    Clothing prices up.
    Bridge tolls up.
    Medical insurance premiums up.
    Medicine costs up.
Afghanistan war extended to 2014 from 2011.

Frankly, I’m surprised Obama isn’t in the 20’s. But, my prediction is, he will be in the low 20’s by next summer. Obama is an utter failure.

  9. lea-lea says:

I’m driving up to Santa Maria for Thanksgiving and just filled up my car. I paid $3.29 for regular. At this rate, I imagine gas will be over $4 a gallon my summer.

How the Obama administration can claim there is no inflation is beyond comprehension.

We’ve got to do better next time. We can’t afford another not-ready-for-primetime president.

  10. this is the start — obama has proven (to me anyway) that is he a pretty lousy president — this is what you get when you compromise and wimp out instead of lead and inspire — and the media – well they have left him behind long ago

the GOP puts up any half sane person and they win hands down – obama’s lack of concern for anyone other than his corporate masters and his obsession with bipartisanship with the people who hate him has dragged the dems down to levels they may not recover from…..

i hope he gets primaried – like Carter did in 1980 – because i am sick and tired of voting NOT republican

  11. Sarah says:

I voted for Obama, though I strongly favored Hilliary!! I was hoping that Hilliary would run in 2012 against Obama, but she has said she will not. I am thoroughly disappointed in this President. He lacks sensitivity and leadership, and though he has inherited a terrible mess from the last administration, his lack of leadership has put us in worse shape. There isn’t one outstanding thing he has thus far accomplished. His trip to Brazil was just plain stupid. He has the gall to take his entire family, which was supposed to be a business trip to create jobs, was bad enough, but to leave our country at a time when it is in utter turmoil is astonishing. He has proven to be a misguided President and good with words but terrible in actions. I hope that the Democrats will have someone with leadership qualities that will run against Obama in 2012. I don’t want to see a Republican in the White House, because as bad as things are now, it would be far worse. Hilliary is the hardest working person in that entire administration and the smartest. Please Hilliary, run and give us another chance to see that you get into the White House.
