Nevada US Senate candidate and Tea Party kook, Sharron Angle, inserted her foot in her mouth again, this time telling a group of Hispanic high school students last week that “some of you look a little more Asian to me,” inducing gasps from the crowd and marking the latest eyebrow-raising remark she has uttered on the campaign trail.
Angle, a radical rightwing Republican is in a close contest against Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, met last Friday with the group at a Las Vegas high school after the students expressed anger with her campaign’s anti-illegal immigrant rhetoric.
In a video of the private meeting obtained by The Associated Press, Angle defends a series of campaign advertisements that lean on images of dark-skinned men. Angle, who is white and has several Hispanic grandsons, claims she did not know the people in the TV spots were Hispanic and makes the case that it can be difficult to pinpoint someone’s race.
“You know, I don’t know that all of you are Latino. Some of you look a little more Asian to me. I don’t know that,” she is heard telling the students, who respond with a flurry of gasps and whispers.
Hispanic leaders have blasted Angle’s immigration stances.
On the Tea Party circuit, Angle has extolled strong-handed policies that might encourage illegal immigrants to “self-deport” and advocated for more sheriffs like Arizona’s Joe Arpaio, who is under Federal investigation for discriminating against Hispanics.
Angle is an idiot.
I wonder if she can walk and chew gum at the same time? My guess is, no.
Angle can’t tell us wetbacks from the Asians, or blacks, or the dogs because anyone not white with blonde hair aren’t Americans or humans. She’s the perfect Tea Party queen. At the rate this nation is sinking, Angle will probably be our first female president.
What an idiot. This beaner gets accused of looking Italian all the time.
What is odd to me about Angle’s remarks is, she was there to tell a group of high school students that she isn’t anti-Hispanic? So, what made her think offering her racial perception of the crowd is germane to the event? Angle is a real piece of work.
The sad thing is that the alternative to Angle is just as bad … remember Harry Reid is the one who had to apologize for saying some obviously bigoted things about Obama.
Who cares who was in the commercial? This story is being blown way out of proportion. Name me one person who didn’t say something and intended it to mean something else and wished that perhaps they could rephrase it if given a second chance. Unfortunately race is on the political hot seat and people will do whatever they can to exploit it in order to give their candidate the edge. Let’s stop the racial bickering and get on with the issues at hand.
The woman is just plain nuts. The most unfortunate thing is that, in Reno anyway, Angle campaign signs outnumber Reid campaign signs 10 to 1. Not that Reid is without fault–this really is a selection of the lesser of two idiots.
that of a good understand.
