CNN Fires Rick Sanchez for Anti-Semitic Comments

Friday, October 1, 2010

CNN fired Rick Sanchez Friday afternoon for making anti-Semitic comments Thursday on a radio show.

This increasingly bizarre Sanchez called popular Comedy Central host Jon Stewart a “bigot” for criticizing him, and complained that Jews don’t face discrimination. He went on to say the media industry in general is run by Jews.

CNN, whose ratings have faltered over the past decade issued a brief statement:

“Rick Sanchez is no longer with the company. We thank Rick for his years of service and we wish him well.”

Rick Sanchez had become well known in recent days for his peculiar remarks and even telling blatant lies on-air.

In 2009, he falsely attributed a racist comment to rightwing radio personality Rush Limbaugh which he was later forced to retract. In March, 2010, while reporting the Chilean earthquake, Sanchez referred to the Galapagos Islands as part of Hawaii. A month earlier, Sanchez referred to the metric system as a “foreign language” and asked for a translator.

They’ll find someone like Savage to replace him.

  2. Randy Arroyo says:

Of all the talented, educated and qualified people CNN could hire to fill that afternoon timeslot, they hired this moron? It’s almost as nutty as launching Glenn Beck’s TV career. I haven’t watched CNN for eons and this is one of the many reasons why.

  3. Arizona Leatherneck says:

    Sanchez is a complete dope.

The only other person in corporate news I can think of who likes to hear himself talk more is Brian Williams.

My favorite Rick Sanchez stunt was the taser. This was one of the dumbest things I’ve ever seen on a so-called serious news network.

  4. lea-lea says:

    Adios, Little Ricky!

He’s an embarrassment to Latinos and Hispanic everywhere on earth.

  5. Jim says:

He just kept getting weirder and weirder!

  6. Porter Portez says:

Rick murdered someone in a DUI in Miami, and 90 minutes later when he returned to the scene his blood alcohol level was .15, drunk being .10 That is right, brave Rick fled the scene and the Miami cop friends of his helped him get off by saying the victim ran in front of Rick’s car. Rick was charged with some lesser crime and got zero jail time, his victim was paralyzed and in horrible pain, he died 5 years later from injuries from the accident. The victim was only 36 years old, a carpenter whose family went broke trying to pay for rehabilitation for him, Rick never paid a dime to help this guy. Rick is about as scummy as a scumbag can be.

  7. ladyblue says:

good riddance to another media idiot!

    see ya, rick!!!!

  8. DMason says:

It’s as if CNN is doing all it can to go out of business. I don’t even recognize the network today compared to the cable news network of 10 and 15 years ago. Do you think Time Warner is ready to sever ties and sell it to the highest bidder?

  9. Brigadoon says:

Maybe “the Jews control the media” comment was just the final straw? Rick Sanchez’ take on the Tyler Clementi suicide was cruel and insensitive and proved how ill-suited Sanchez is to host a news program. I do CNN has a chance to reverse their fortunes now. I hope this is just the start.

  10. feminazi says:

I used to have Puerto Rican neighbors. They’ve since retired and relocated to Florida. They were pleasant but every so often I would hear the husband make a comment about the “New York Jews” controlling all the money. As a Jewish woman, I remember thinking, well if this is true, can they send some my way?

  11. Mets Fan says:

CNN has lost 7 or 8 well-qualified journalists in recent years. The Christiane Amanpour loss was particularly sobering for them.

No wonder Anderson Cooper is launching a network talkshow away from CNN. No doubt he sees what lies ahead and it ain’t pretty.

  12. Pechanga says:

“Sanchez referred to the Galapagos Islands as part of Hawaii.”

ROFLMAO! Oh man. Why is CNN on the air?

    I mean, seriously.

  13. Harry says:

Sanchez will show up on Fox before next summer. They love signing CNN’s sloppy seconds.

  14. fran says:

Sanchez is a douche…. glad to see him go.
CNN needs a professional journalist, not these sensationalist commentators.

  15. Bill Hussein O'Reilly says:

Rick Sanchez and Mel Gibson. BFFs forever.

Has CNN no shame? I guess not. Anti-Semitism is just so 1980. It suggests the Reagan era and bores me silly.

  16. okjimm says:

well….. in his defense….. I think the metric system is kinda like a foreign language. I still can’t figure out how many dimes go into a meter…. and I get a lotta parking tickets because of it.

  17. Rinaldo says:

Sanchez will end up hosting some morning show on a local station in some smallish city somewhere (I hear Amarillo and Yakima have openings).
