Obusha Heckled on AIDS, LGBT Rights, at NYC Fundraiser

Wednesday, September 22, 2010

President Obusha felt the love at a hoity-toity Democratic fundraiser in New York City Wednesday night as angry protesters heckled the president for failing to fund AIDS programs and quicker action on the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell.”

Frustrated activists shouted slogans and held up signs aloft reading “Obama broken promises KILL.” Supporters of the president tried to drown them out with shouts of “O-bam-a! O-bam-a!”

Hecklers forced President Obusha off-script several times, insisting he’s increased AIDS funding and is working to overturn the Clinton-era ban on gay and lesbian Americans from openly serving in the military.

In what’s come to be the president’s defense to most criticism, he told the activists to go shout at Republicans, noting that a vote on repealing “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” failed this week in the Senate, with Republicans united in opposition.

Mr. Obusha failed to mention never once could he be bothered to lift a finger and call wavering members of the Republican senate minority asking for their support on the repeal measure.

The protest took place at the Roosevelt Hotel during an event expected to raise $1.4 million for Democratic House and Senate campaign committees. Tickets for soiree ranged from $100 for a general reception to $15,200 for a dinner and photo with President Obusha.

Wow. This would have been unimaginable two years ago. Obama walked on water and he was worshiped like a black JFK. He received love and adoration and anything less made you a heretic. There is no doubt folks. This president is a one termer.

  2. Greg Equality Lengkong says:

I’m tired of Obama blaming Republicans for all of his shortcomings.

He needs to man up and at least try to lead. I mean, at this late stage of the game, with his Democratic majorities slipping away as we speak, what does he have to lose?

  3. Jolly Roger says:

That bill, coming when and AS it did to the Senate floor, was a blatant pander to those of us on the “professional left.”

And, damn all, we have to hope it works. We can deal with this guy in 2012, but we have to minimize the damage done between now and then.

  4. Brigadoon says:

I missed this post yesterday. Did you put it up late in the day or at night? Well, I say good on the protesters. This president needs to understand he will be held accountable for his failure to deliver. He says he added funding for AIDS. Most of this went to Africa and not American victims of the disease. Obama has, to his credit, add monies to help eliminate ADAP waiting lists but not Ryan White Title IV. The DADT repeal mess will go down in history as a disgrace and I am still furious. Obama is losing valuable time to get his first term correct. If he doesn’t, he will be voted out of office.

  5. feminazi says:

What rankles me is Obama’s lack of vision. He could be a great president, defined as the leader who turned the corner on cancer, AIDS, and MS. We need a WPA to fix our infrastructure and put people to work. FDR did this and history rewarded him with the status as a great leader. What I see in Obama a man-child. He’s like a little boy at the candy store and expects everyone to adore him for being him. This is an immature notion of how the adult game works. He must cut his ties to the Bush Doctrine in Iraq and Afghanistan. Let it go. He’s the president and as Commander in Chief, the military does what he says — not the other way around.

  6. Vivzzz says:

Mr. Obama’s mother succumbed to breast cancer. A disease now epidemic among women. One-in-seven of us will fight breast cancer in our lifetimes. Yet, the funding for NIH research to find a cure is at 2008 levels. Why, Mr. Obama? Please explain why you care more about rebuilding Afghanistan than you do about curing breast cancer?

  7. Smooch says:

Wait till Bob Woodward’s new book, Obama’s Wars drops.

President Obama told Woodward, on the record, “the U.S. can absorb a nuclear, terrorist attack.” This is almost, verbatim what Obama’s cousin, Dick Cheney told FOX News.

The apple doesn’t fall far from the neocon tree.

  8. Harry says:

Smooch – Excerpts are the Washington Post page and yes, Obama’s world view is a scary. I had no idea how far to the right he is on foreign policy.

  9. Bel Ami says:

I read the excerpts of ‘Obama’s Wars’ and everything was consistent with Obama’s statements throughout the primary and campaign.

People were ready and willing to look past Obama’s pro-Wall Street, pro-war positions because a:) he wasn’t George Bush, and b:) he wasn’t John McCain.

Nevertheless, Obama always made me nervous and I only voted for him because I knew things would be much worse with McCain/Palin running the country. But I have a bad case of buyer’s remorse now and I am looking forward to 2012.

  10. In his defense, Republicans ARE the majority in Congress.

  11. Jolly Roger says:

I second that, Bel Ami. He wasn’t my first choice, or even my second choice. I actually caught a lot of hell for writing a post in 2007 called “Obama Is Written Off.”

It seemed that if Obama’s supporters weren’t screaming at me, Hill’s were. I wonder how the Obama devotees like me NOW?

  12. fran says:

Good. Give him hell. Don’t let him get away with it.
I hope he is constantly hounded about it.
