Stephen Hawking says Universe Not Created by God

Friday, September 3, 2010

British Professor Stephan Hawking is smart. Hawking is arguably the Albert Einstein of this generation so when he speaks, people listen.

So listen up Bible thumpers. Stephen Hawking says universe was not created by God.

God did not create the universe, the man who is arguably Britain’s most famous living scientist says in a forthcoming book. In the new work, The Grand Design, Professor Stephen Hawking argues that the Big Bang, rather than occurring following the intervention of a divine being, was inevitable due to the law of gravity.

With the insight and precision we’ve come to expect, Hawking observes:

If oxen and horses and lions had hands and were able to draw with their hands and do the same things as men, horses would draw the shapes of gods to look like horses and oxen to look like oxen, and each would make the gods’ bodies have the same shape as they themselves had.

A creator is “not necessary.” Got that, Bible thumpers?

    Hawking is very smart indeed.

I like how his point of view has evolved and changed from 1986 when he wrote he was willing to accept the role of a creator in the creation of the universe.

  2. Scott Dancer says:

Hawking also posited that Einstein was incorrect.

The theory of relativity proved nothing can move faster than light but in fact, as the universe expands and contracts, it is moving faster than light speed.

Knowledge is an ever changing, expanding thing.

  3. Joe in Colorado says:

You know what I always wonder about? We know that the universe and the billions of galaxies occupy a vast space containing all things. So what existed before the Big Bang? Nothing? Emptiness? Another universe? I think I need to take two aspirins because my head hurts.

  4. Rachel says:

Stephan Hawking is brilliant. Maybe he can figure out how to fix the US economy because Obama’s tired team is hapless and hopeless. I heard an economist predict unemployment will reach 12% nationally by New Years Day. This is catastrophe and something must be done immediately. No more vacations for Barry until he fixes the economy.

  5. Golfinho says:

    Dear Chris,

that`s the assumption that there is a God, but that God didn`t created the Universe. So, what God is that? The God created by man?

  6. 18thCfriend says:

We are called merely to witness the fact that Hawking’s proposition disputes Newton’s theory of the nature of creation, gravity, not the truth ergo the acceptability of either hypothesis. We acknowledge the fact that Hawking & Newton are at odds; but we are more infinitely comme si il étaient unlearned than they & at least smart enough, one hopes, to see, were we to try to butt in & as you so keenly if not gracefully express it thump our Bibles , what fools were we! OK?

  7. Michelle says:

If there is no god than man will always feel the need to invent one.

  8. Golfinho says:

Only our Bibles? My “God” has no religion :- ) so they say…

  9. Bill Hussein O'Reilly says:

    I’m God!
I created the Universe and everything in it!
    Kneel down before me!
I am the Great and Powerful Bill Hussein O’Reilly!

  10. Golfinho says:

What? No, God created all that is within the Universe, wich it`s more weird o.O

  11. Harry says:

    Bill Hussein O’Reilly — LOL! You’re a mess!

  12. Ron Krumpos says:

In “The Grand Design” Stephen Hawking postulates that the M-theory may be the Holy Grail of physics…the Grand Unified Theory which Einstein had tried to formulate and later abandoned. It expands on quantum mechanics and string theories.

In my e-book on comparative mysticism is a quote by Albert Einstein: “…most beautiful and profound emotion we can experience is the sensation of the mystical. It is the sower of all true science. To know that what is impenetrable to us really exists, manifesting itself as the highest wisdom and most radiant beauty – which our dull faculties can comprehend only in their primitive form – this knowledge, this feeling, is at the center of all religion.”

Einstein’s Special Theory of Relativity is probably the best known scientific equation. I revised it to help better understand the relationship between divine Essence (Spirit), matter (mass/energy: visible/dark) and consciousness (fx raised to its greatest power). Unlike the speed of light, which is a constant, there are no exact measurements for consciousness. In this hypothetical formula, basic consciousness may be of insects, to the second power of animals and to the third power the rational mind of humans. The fourth power is suprarational consciousness of mystics, when they intuit the divine essence in perceived matter. This was a convenient analogy, but there cannot be a divine formula.

  13. LM says:

I’m no theist, but the claim to know whether or not a god or gods played a role in the creation of the universe is silly either way you argue it.

  14. Pradeep elias says:

    We all know some part of universe stars are taken birth and some dead due to the internal gravitation inside the galaxy , we all know the science behind that , so stephan howking is rihgt our physics is going to capabile to explain the theory of creation of universe . i personely do not belive in big bang theory ;
there is some thing is pushed in to the creation of universe , we all know in physical state nothing is created from the empty ? so how its acceptabile in case of univese ? and also we look at our history when the religion begin and started worship the god very recent time ? in our civilizations there is no god at ancient time , people do not care about that , when the people started to living in big groups , then the god enter the humen history . some body said before ; ‘ knowledge give freedom to men’ some one get that ><

  15. Zacharyrod says:

Stephen Hawkins isn’t God, so I won’t listen to him X)

There is god bcoz men cant leave even 1sec more if god doesnt want.if theres no god den find somone who can leave atleast 1sec at da tym of his or her death.

  18. You are a fool .First you have to read the holy quran then you can comment.Holy quran is the only thing in the world that has solutions of all problems,u need to gain yourself the strong beleife on our respectabele “holy quran”.then you will be a proper scientist in future otherwise not.

  19. mamun sarker says:

at first u have to look at on urself, how u live ur life in the earth and by whoom?ask urself.u r a pure duffer, just think that with that power in urself ,was given by ur “god” bladdy fool!!!!!! U r only scientist man,not creator.who gave u that owsam power to be a great scientist?Ever did u think urself, this anytime?

  20. Golfinho says:

The God in the Holy Quran is the same God in the Holy Bible; Maome quotes Jesus as a divine person descendent from Abraam and from the one and only God. Read the Holy Caran, don`t write things that induce people.

  21. Mar Honwana says:

It seems we all need some faith in something, and for some it is God for some Stephen Hawking.

  22. TORTOISE (Hinduism) and DRAGON (Taoism) are symbols for ENERGY or WAVE, both are analog with MAGEN DAVID (Judaism). “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” is the metaphor, also Thawaf seven times circling around the Ka’ba and Sa’i oscillating along “the sinus” Marwah-Shafa during rituals of the Hajj (Abraham).
“A BRIEF HISTORY OF TIME – From the Big Bang to Black Hole” by Stephen W. Hawking is the best scientific interpretation of AL QUR’AN by a non believer. It is also a “genuine bridge stone” for comprehensive study of Theology. Surprise, this paradox is a miracle and blessing in disguise as well. So, it should be very wise and challenging for Moslem scholars to verify my discovery.
    NeoSUFI visionary strategic thinking.
