Here’s the Pentagon’s SURVEY asking 400,000 members of the military if they think gay and lesbian Americans have the same right as they enjoy to serve their nation in the military.
The SURVEY is part of an ongoing study (one of dozens conducted to date) regarding the repeal of the viciously homophobic, Clinton-era policy known as “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,” which bans gays and lesbians from openly serving in uniform.
House lawmakers repealed the policy as part of their version of the annual defense spending bill. However, the U.S. senate has yet to vote on the issue.
Replace “homosexual” with “African American” and the outrage would be heard on the surface of Mars.
But when it concerns gays and lesbians, the rules are different. This is just wrong. Repeal the damned thing.
I sure hope they follow up these surveys with a series of committees that lead to an extensive array of colloquia.
It’s not the job of the grunts to make policy. The job of the grunts is to follow orders. The Pentagon had no business sending the survey out in the first place. It is clear the military brass is trying to hide behind the young men and women in the service. Utter bullshit.
David is spot-on. Members of the service follow the orders they’re given. It’s not up to them to make the rules. If they don’t like the terms, then they shouldn’t be in the military.
This so-called “survey” encourages homophobia.
The matter of repealing the ban has been studied to death.
This is just another delay tactic. What of the survey skews against repealing the ban? Then what?
Will the cowardly Dems and the equally cowardly Obama use the results to not act to end the repeal?
The esteemed Palm Center at the University of California Santa Barbara issued an exhaustive report on repealing DADT. The study was conducted by retired members of the US military. So the Pentagon is clearly looking for ways to delay the inevitable. They’re wasting time and energy and worst of all, they’re fueling homophobia.
Good thing no one sent around a survey asking if they thought school segregation should end.
Repeal the ban. The troops will deal with it just fine.
These men and women are just trying to stay alive in hot spots around the world like Afghanistan and Iraq. They have more important things to worry about than who is gay. Get real, Pentagon.
