Sen. Schumer: It ‘Makes Sense’ To ‘Strangle Gaza Economically’ Until it Votes Israel’s Way

Friday, June 11, 2010

Sen. Chuck Schumer (D-NY) on Wednesday said it made sense to strangle Gaza economically until it votes the way Israel wants:

“The Palestinian people still don’t believe in the Jewish state, in a two-state solution. More do than before, but a majority still do not. Their fundamental view is, the Europeans treated the Jews badly and gave them our land, this is Palestinian thinking. They don’t believe in the Torah, in David. You have to force them to say Israel is here to stay. The boycott of Gaza to me has another purpose, obviously the first purpose is to prevent Hamas from getting weapons by which they will use to hurt Israel but the second is actually to show the Palestinians that when there’s some moderation and cooperation, they can have an economic advancement. When there’s total war against Israel, which Hamas wages, they’re going to get nowhere. And to me, since the Palestinians in Gaza elected Hamas, while certainly there should be humanitarian aid and people not starving to death, to strangle them economically until they see that’s not the way to go, makes sense.”

Watch it:

Sen. Schumer is either woefully uninformed or, a bald faced liar. Recent polling has found that 74% of the Palestinian population wants to see a two-state solution with an Israeli and Palestinian state side-by-side. It is also the position of Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas too, and there is evidence that Gaza’s Hamas rulers may be ready to support such a solution as well.

Sen. Schumer’s remarks are simply baffling. To say an economic strangulation makes “sense” in order to produce better leadership in Gaza ignores the fact that 44% of the Palestinian civilian population is under the age of 14. Is Sen. Schumer in favor of harming children?

Methinks Chuckie has a conflict of interest.

I’m sure his constituents on the Upper East Side cheered when they heard this comment and wrote him a check for his reelection campaign.

  2. Adirondacky says:

I lost all respect for Schumer after he and Feinstein dragged Michael Mukasey out of retirement to fill the slot vacated by Alberto Gonzales. Mukasey was a Reaganite and enjoyed the approval of the Knesset. I learned quite a lot about the US Congress after this power play was perpetrated on the American people.

  3. Randy Arroyo says:

According to Sen. Schumer, it is Israel’s way or the highway. Interesting. I guess he’s playing to his political base. He really is despicable.

  4. R.J. says:

It’s bad for us to say ill things about Israel but it’s okay to talk about strangling Gaza? WTH?

  5. I’m tired of this Israel-first bullshit from American politicians. No, US first (as in protecting our interests, not America right or wrong). The oath they take is to uphold the US constitution, not to protect the interests of some other country. Never voting for this bastard again. Hell, I’ll vote for a handful of dirt over him.

  6. Joe in Colorado says:

I’m sick and tied of the entire debate. Both groups were there long, long ago and both groups have a right to a homeland. If the Palestinians and the Israelis don’t learn to co-exist, and stop trying to kill one another, they’re in trouble because the US can’t babysit them forever.

  7. feminazi says:

Hi Adirondacky. I had completely forgotten about Schumer and Feinstein — both Russian Jews, being responsible for the Michael Mukasey nomination. He enjoyed Israeli haskome and George Bush went along. Schumer needs to understand he’s first and foremost an American lawmaker and not an Israeli Knesset member.

  8. Bill Hussein O'Reilly says:

    Schumer can go fuck himself.

  9. Peace Nick says:

Clearly, Schumer doesn’t see the Israeli-Arabs as human beings.

They’re just cattle that need to be herded into a particular holding area until they can be slaughtered and then eaten.

  10. i am jewish, i live in new york
and i find chuck schumer and all the rabid israel right or wrong lovers – the MAIN reason there is no peace in the mideast……

lets also not forget chuck’s love of wall street.

    sadly he is “our” guy.
