Ex-Marine Accused of Murder Running for Congress in N.C.

Thursday, January 28, 2010

A former Marine once charged with murder in the deaths of two Iraqis is running for Congress as a Republican in North Carolina.

Ilario Pantano announced his candidacy Thursday in Wilmington. He is seeking the Republican nomination. The 35-year-old Pantano will challenge Democratic Rep. Mike McIntyre for North Carolina’s Seventh Congressional District.

Pantano shot two men in Mahmudiyah, Iraq, in 2004 and hung a warning sign on their corpses. A Marine general decided in 2005 not to bring Pantano to trial, following the advice of an officer who presided over the military equivalent of a grand jury hearing.

Please North Carolina, don’t elect his man to the Congress.

    This is scary.

Isn’t there a vetting process for someone running for office? Ilario Pantano sounds wholly inappropriate for elected office.

  2. sean says:

sounds like a perfect REPUBLICAN candidate

  3. davisoftheapes1 says:

Scary? Don’t elect him? Bullshit! He killed two Iraqis? Ain’t we at war with some of those sons of bitches? WHY did the equivalent of a Grand Jury decide not to bring charges? Could they have been shooting at Ilario?

  4. libhomo says:

The most disturbing part of the kill, kill, kill coment is that it doesn’t appear to be a sick joke.

  5. Randy Arroyo says:

Do you know the background on this case? Pantano didn’t empty 80 rounds into two insurgents — he emptied 80 rounds into two Iraqi civilians. Pantano was out of control and out of his mind. Now, the so-called “preppy Marine” plans to run for Congress in NC? Like Sean said, Pantano is a perfect GOP candidate.

  6. davisoftheapes1 says:

According to who? Did the civilians have guns pointed at him?

  7. Randy Arroyo says:

“Did the civilians have guns pointed at him?”

Nope. They were walking down a street talking and heard a U.S. soldier with a rifle scream at them from behind in a foreign language and they ran. This, per eyewitnesses. I guess if Pantano had told them in perfect Arabic to drop to their knees and perform fellatio on him, they had better begin slurping or risk getting their brains blown out.

  8. Arizona Leatherneck says:

Ilario Pantano is a disgrace to all the upstanding men and women who serve this country with honor.

He shouldn’t be running for elected office. PERIOD.

  9. bradfrmphnx says:

I agree with those who think this douchebag is shitstain on the legacy of those who have served this country with honor.

  10. Scott Dancer says:

    davisoftheapes1,

The military gleans from a diverse population which means you have men and women who demonstrate sound judgment and a few bad apples who do not.

Remember Lyndie England at Abu Ghraib? Or, Staff Sgt. Tyrone Luther Hadnott, the Marine from Camp Courtney in Okinawa, was arrested and convicted of raping a 14-year old girl?

Fortunately, they are few and far between but the fact is, bad people sometimes slip through and become members of the Army, Navy or Marines and the results can be disastrous when they do.

Ilario Pantano will have to live with what he did in Iraq for the rest of his life. But, his character seems ill suited to serve in elected office.

  11. TOM339 says:

Did any of you read the New Yorker interview with Ilario Pantano? It was quite an eye opener.

The writer met with him at a bar in Tribeca in New York City. He is so racked with guilt and fear for his life that he insisted on sitting in a dark area of the bar and drank his way through the interview.

He knows what he did was wrong and he knows he dodged a bullet not being prosecuted for killing the two Iraqi civilians. He’s clearly a man trapped by his personal demons and arguably, unstable.

  12. JollyRoger says:

He’s a teabagger wet dream. Killing smelly brown inferiors is just adored by the inbred denizens of Jesusistan.

  13. dont elect him – i bet the tea baggers and douchebags in No Carolina (home of Virginia Foxx and RIchard Burr) cant wait to vote for him

    great country huh?

  14. Patriot says:

What is there to vet? He was found not guilty… is currently a Deputy Sheriff… has zero criminal record… has an Honorable Discharge from the US Marine Corps… gave up a Wall Street career to (yet again) serve his country.

You people that hate Pantano are no better than Fascists.

And to the moron who stated “Killing smelly brown inferiors”, you must have missed that Pantano himself has brown skin.

After reading this blog, I’ve decided to volunteer for Pantano’s campaign. Hatemongering Fascisti like all of you need to be stopped.

  15. Tyrone says:

Not only is Ilario Pantano a liar, murderer and sociopath. I believe he’s a deep seeded racist just like most of the GOP.

  16. tld62 says:

This Marine was vindicated—killed the terrorists!!??–aren’t we at war for God’s sake! Sounds like he was doing his job.

  17. horatio says:

jesus tld62 you want to sound anymore nieve read the actually stuff about the incident you obviously the reason why this guy has even got a chance of winning. He stopped two civilins got his team to search the car and them twice then when his team was walking off he shot 60 rounds into the civilins and then put a warning plaque on his body. If you actually bothered not to be a sheep and research stuff yourself or investigate yourself you would know that and realize how mistaken your comment was. You also clearly sound like you think all iraqis are terrorists.

Lastly he wasnt vindicated the prosecution annhilated his defense but a higher up officer intervened and then they where wasnt enough evidence.

  18. horatio says:

    *on their bodies
