OctoMom: the Musical!

Tuesday, September 22, 2009

In water breaking news, I suppose it was inevitable that someone would pen a musical about Nadya Suleman, AKA, OctoMom, AKA, OctoPussy, the 33-year old, the La Habra, CA woman who with the help of a fertility specialist, over-stimulated her uterus and gave birth to eight babies. Suleman, who was unemployed and on public assistance at the time, became a media sensation and the poster girl for our celebrity-obsessed society.

But OctoMom, the Musical is no garage theater joke. The new piece opened to fawning, critical acclaim. The Los Angeles Times reviewer said the musical has “a certain demented charm.” The LA Weekly called it “a theatrical comic book, charming and witty.” Buzzfeed described it as “a fresh tube of crazy.” And Back Stage called it “funny, sweet, scrappy and hysterical.”

  1. Arizona Leatherneck says:

    Nadya Suleman is smart.

She was unemployed, uneducated and the only gift she possessed was an overheated vajayjay and she managed to turn it into an ATM machine.

    How American is that?

  2. feminazi says:

Actually, Arizona Leatherneck, Octo Mom isn’t very smart and the fertility doctor who over stimulated her ovaries should lose his medical license. Women aren’t dogs or cats — we’re not designed to deliver litters of babies. The extraordinary release of the hormones needed to ovulate to this degree could very well lead to serious health problems down the road for this woman.

    I can see it now….

…Octopussy strapped in with her legs up in the air, grunting out in mournful glee at the moments of birth. Then out come the little tykes, shooting forth like cannon fodder on the Fourth of July. “God Bless America” plays in the background…

  4. Harry says:

Some friends of mine saw it and they said it’s one of the strangest and funniest plays they’ve ever seen.

  5. Tiny Dancer says:

This is a hoot! I wish I was in Los Angeles so I could see it.

    What fun! 🙂

  6. Walk on Socks says:

I hadn’t heard of this but I think I’ll get tickets and go.

It sounds like an event like “Sing-Along Sound of Music.”
