President Obama Speaks to America’s Students and Conservatives are Still Insane

Tuesday, September 8, 2009

Today, President Obama will deliver a televised speech to America’s students and conservatives are outraged! The text of the speech can be read HERE. Mr. Obama will tell students if they want to be a doctor, a nurse, a teacher, an architect, or a lawyer, first they will need a solid education. He will tell them not drop out, do their homework, and pay attention to their teachers; listen to their parents and grandparent. These are the radical themes conservatives fear their children will hear from the President of the United States. In fact, Conservatives have become so worked-up over the speech that in many school districts across the country, parents have decided to keep their kids home today in order to shield them from what the president might say.

  1. Joe in Colorado says:

Even Pickles Bush came out in support of President Obama speaking to the students of this country. I never thought I would see the day when wingers thought the president was trying to indoctrinate their kids and they needed to be protected. These are very strange times indeed.

  2. Brigadoon says:

Let’s keep it real, OK? To white conservatives, President Obama is a scary black man. A Muslim, a member of the Black Panthers and the Weather Underground. The rightwing pushback to his speech is blatantly racist. If Obama were white, do you really think conservatives would give a shit?

  3. TOM339 says:

CNN says most of the push-back to President Obama’s speech can be found in Texas, Virginia and Utah.

Should I be surprised these three states lead the pack?

I also think Brigadoon hit the nail on the head. At the core, racism is informing the out of proportion reaction from wingtards. Obama is threatening to white conservatives and FOX News and AM radio is doing their best to keep the racism alive.

  4. lea-lea says:

Not only racism but, the radical right is trying hard to paint President Obama as communist, a Maoist and radical, who wants to create a citizen army made up from students who can oppose the military.

I predict Alex Jones will soon have a TV program of his own on FOX to push this crazy-talk. I mean, they’ve already got Glenn Beck saying garbage like this.

No wonder the rightwing noise machine is afraid of the return of the fairness doctrine.

  5. Harry says:

Why does President Obama even bother? I have become so disheartened and disillusioned with this country. Americans are ridiculous.

  6. Aunt Peg says:

I was taken aback to see Laura Bush defend Obama for talking directly to America’s students.

    Wh would’ve thought it?

  7. Philly D says:

Maybe if President Obama read passages from ‘My Pet Goat’, these parents would be happier?

  8. VicoDANIEL says:

I really think tomorrow’s speech to the Joint Sessions of Congress will be a referendum on 2012.

If Mr. Obama is serious about seeking a second term, he needs to drop all of this silly bipartisanship and just ploy ahead with the mandate the voters gave him last November.

A mandate that includes reforming healthcare and including a public option. If he fails to do this and instead, gets bogged down in looking for GOP members of Congress to hold hands with, coupled with expanding the war in Afghanistan, then I think he will face a challenger on 2012 and it will likely be Hillary Clinton.

    I feel nauseous already.

  9. JollyRoger says:

This “uproar” has produced one positive benefit-as in, there can’t be a shred of doubt anymore that the Klanservatives aren’t upset at any reality-based position the President has taken. They are upset because the President is a Black man. They aren’t even trying to hide it anymore.

A lot of gasbags are predicting a Rushpublican rout in 2010, and I am predicting just the opposite: as in, there will be significant blowback in the 2010 election cycle. The Klanservatives aren’t going to be able to put their burning crosses and white sheets away for one day in November and fool anyone. Their blatant racism is going to inspire a lot of people to make it to the polls, and it is going to hurt them, not help them.

  10. retahyajyajav says:

    Stay in school.
    Work hard.
    Do your homework.
Listen to you parents and teachers.

The horror! Pure, unadulterated subversion. An example of communism.

  11. Walk on Socks says:

I watched Obama’s speech on my IPod.

I think he’s back. I hope tomorrow night, Obama hits the healthcare ball out of the park.

  12. Fran says:

Furthermore he alludes to the greater good, and positive outcomes for humanity.

How dare he! The Audacity of Hope!

    Good Gawd!

  13. Randy Arroyo says:

I heard on the radio that Texas was the most worked up over President Obama speaking to the children of this nation. I guess most of them are at home in front of the TV anyway since Texas is the land of homes schooling.

  14. libhomo says:

Dammit, that Obama keeps blinking. Don’t you know that blinking is an evil plot to hypnotize the elderly?

  15. feminazi says:

A wonderful, empowering speech. My nephew saw it at his high school and said the students enjoyed listening to President Obama’s encouraging words. But he lives in Connecticut and not in Texas or Utah.

  16. Bwana Jim says:

I thought it was inspirational. I was proud of my president and the message he delivered to our kids.
