In the on-going war between FOX News host Glenn Beck and White House green jobs czar, Van Jones, the victory goes to Beck. Jones resigned today after Beck successfully used his TV program to label Jones as a communist and a dangerous radical after Jones — a co-founder of ColorofChange.org, led an successful advertising boycott against Beck’s show to protest Beck’s claim that President Obama is a racist.
The resignation comes as President Obama works to regain control of the healthcare debate following an August clumsily lost to conservative pundits, townhall dust-ups and a growing public perception that the Obama White House is ready to abandon the public option is part of any healthcare reform legislation. The White House’s support of Jones has gone from boilerplate to tepid in recent weeks.
News reports claimed Jones’ name appeared on a 2004 petition asking for Congressional hearings to investigate whether high-level government officials had allowed the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to occur as a pretext for the U.S. invasion and subsequent was against Iraq. Jones flatly said he did not agree with the petition’s claims, stating that “it certainly does not reflect my views, now or ever.”
If FOX News lunatics like Glenn Beck now holds sway over the Obama White House, then anyone currently working for the administration, or considering a job working for it, should view the Van Jones episode as a cautionary tale: President Obama has no intention of standing up for the people who work him.
