Obama Adviser Resigns

In the on-going war between FOX News host Glenn Beck and White House green jobs czar, Van Jones, the victory goes to Beck. Jones resigned today after Beck successfully used his TV program to label Jones as a communist and a dangerous radical after Jones — a co-founder of, led an successful advertising boycott against Beck’s show to protest Beck’s claim that President Obama is a racist.

The resignation comes as President Obama works to regain control of the healthcare debate following an August clumsily lost to conservative pundits, townhall dust-ups and a growing public perception that the Obama White House is ready to abandon the public option is part of any healthcare reform legislation. The White House’s support of Jones has gone from boilerplate to tepid in recent weeks.

News reports claimed Jones’ name appeared on a 2004 petition asking for Congressional hearings to investigate whether high-level government officials had allowed the September 11, 2001 terrorist attacks to occur as a pretext for the U.S. invasion and subsequent was against Iraq. Jones flatly said he did not agree with the petition’s claims, stating that “it certainly does not reflect my views, now or ever.”

If FOX News lunatics like Glenn Beck now holds sway over the Obama White House, then anyone currently working for the administration, or considering a job working for it, should view the Van Jones episode as a cautionary tale: President Obama has no intention of standing up for the people who work him.

Obama made a choice. Healthcare or Van Jones and I think he made the correct choice. However, I am alarmed at the power conservative media has over this administration. I don’t see FOX as mainstream conservative media like George Will. FOX is a very different bird. They push propaganda and they are very un-American. I think this will come back and bite Obama in his rear.

  2. Ben says:

Yesterday, I browsed over to CNN’s web-page to see what they were reporting. Nothing, nada, zip, zilch, zero. They didn’t care to report a single word on Mr. Jones and his background. Obviously, they assessed America did not need to know.

If anyone doubts that true journalism in America died a long time ago, they only have to look to CNN.

From where I sit, it is clear the large majority of news media outlets have acquiesced to the Democratic Party making themselves the public relations department for the democrats.

So if you want the party line then look to CNN, NBC, CBS, ABC, MS-NBC, Boston Globe, New York Times, L.A. Times, Chicago Tribune and their ilk for your news and information… or lack thereof.

Truth is where you find it.

One more thing. If you have a problem with the press reporting truth, then in your world, Nixon would have served out his second term as free from scrutiny from Watergate as you would have for Obama and his minions.

  3. anonymous says:

“So if you want the party line then look to Fox News and their ilk for your news and information… or lack thereof.”

    Fixed that for you.

  4. Obama lost his balls right after he was sworn in, no surprise here. I can’t imagine why anyone would want to work for him when he abandons everything he stood for in the election. Just another politician, if his mouth is moving he is lying.

  5. anonymous says:

This just in, any news organization that doesn’t incessently call reasonable people communists until they resign is politically biased. Thanks for letting us know, Ben.

  6. TOM339 says:

I have to respectfully disagree, feminazi.

President Obama needs to grow a pair and stand up and support the people he hired to work for him and not buckle to the likes of FOX kook Glenn Beck.

Mark my words, next up is senior adviser Valerie Jarrett, who Beck and GOP media whore Michelle Malkin have taken to label as an extremist and Obama’s “consigliere.”

If the president throws her under the bus, then all bets are off and I predict Obama will struggle to complete just one term. Someone from the far right will float the idea of impeachment for hiring communists to work his administration.

  7. Big Hank says:

Beck is a pussy fuming over ColorofChange’s successful boycott campaign of his freakshow on FIXED Noise.

He had better watch his back because there are going to be some very angry brothers ready to teach him a lesson for this attack.

  8. Dmitris says:

Who did we elect president last November?

Was it Obama or Beck? I can’t seen to recall.

  9. Ben says:

    To anon –

This just in… it’s spelled “incessantly”.

This just in… using a man’s own characterization of himself is not bias.

You make your stuff up as you go along, don’t you?

Challenge for ya… use facts and never resort to name calling.

    You’re welcome.

  10. Aunt Peg says:

I guess I managed to sleep through this one.

Never heard of Van Jones and I don’t watch FAUX Noise or Glen Beck, so this is a war I missed.

One thing I have noticed since the inaugural is, President Obama has a profound need to be liked and in politics, you will never be liked by everyone.

  11. JollyRoger says:

I don’t understand why anyone is listening to Beck anymore, especially since the rumors began that Glenn Beck raped and murdered a young girl in 1990, and Beck’s refusal to deny it.

  12. bradfrmphnx says:

Ben…I think you are foolishly blinded by rightwing rhetoric and incapable of seeing another point of view. On the other hand, many of the people who post here will criticise the left when they see it as being wrong. I find nothing wrong with MSNBC’s reporting, although I imagine you do if it insults something the Limburgher craps out.

Yesterday I listened in on old Glenn Boy Beck for a few minutes. He was stoically listening to the Limburgher tell him how Obama is going to take over the nation, and ruin the country. Nodding his head in complete submission. When I noticed the drool starting to form on the edge of his mouth, I threw up and tuned back to Rachel Maddow.

  13. Ben says:

JollyRoger – I’ll bet you believe in Big Foot and UFOs, too.

On the one hand you attempt to defile and trash a person’s reputation purely on the basis of rumor, while on the other hand demonstrating an inability to process truth.

    Simply amazing.

  14. tomdegan says:

Not since Joe McCarthy shuffled off this mortal coil in 1957 has anyone made a career by accusing people of being communists. Glenn Beck has resurrected the practice. Not only has he found a cabal of secret communists, he has uncovered an entire communist corporation chock full of commies. The name of this company, you may ask?

You heard me right, boys and girls. The network that gave us Uncle Miltie and Ma Perkins has apparently been secretly sending subliminal messages endorsing Marxist doctrine since it was formed in 1926. This would make perfect sense to me. Every time I watched the Rockford Files I had an unexplainable desire to read Das Kapital.

But seriously, folks. Twenty years after the fall of the Soviet Union, red baiting not only seems silly, it’s also kind of nuts. It’s not-at-all surprising that an organization would give this idiot a forum (after all, he’s on FOX Noise). What’s really stunning is the fact that his ratings are relatively high and that so many Americans take his word as gospel.

All kidding aside, half-witted ideologues are a dime a dozen. What separates Glenn Beck from his peers is the fact that he is doing some serious damage to the country he professes to love so much. For all of the comparisons to the Nazis he likes to make with regard to Liberals, Beck’s program has much in common with Adolf Hitler’s 1923 screed, Mein Kampf. Eighty-six years ago, Hitler attempted to arouse the anger of his fellow Germans by spouting half truths and utter nonsense – exactly what Glenn Beck is doing in 2009. So much of the insane dialogue that has been spewed forth at these Town Hall meetings across the country in recent weeks might have been lifted straight from a transcript of any of Beck’s programs.

Beck and his twisted ilk have done the seemingly impossible. They have deflected the blame for America’s current economic distress toward Barack Obama. An incredible feat when you take into consideration the fact that the President is one of the few people in government today whose guilt in the matter is almost nil. They have also let loose with a vengeance the very worst angels of the American nature. Opening this Pandora’s box was relatively easy. Closing it might prove to be a bit of a problem.

    Deep in their hearts
    They do believe
    That they shall undermine someday….

  15. Joe in Colorado says:

Aunt Peg – You didn’t miss anything. Glenn Beck’s entire program is a poorly done, kitschy copy-and-paste of rightwing radio nut, Alex Jones’ program. Not an original thought or idea. Beck is not anyone’s idea of a posterboy for Mormons or recovering alcoholics.

  16. Prairiedog says:

Wow! Nothing gives conservatives an erection better than a thread about:

    1. Michael Vick
    2. Glenn Beck

Not even a thread about Cheney gets them hard as fast. 🙂

  17. Harry says:

    Glenn Beck McCarthy?

  18. VicoDANIEL says:

Too bad Barry buckled to the rightwing noise machine and canned Van Jones. These battles are what I think defines the character of a president.

I mean, can you imagine George Bush buckling like this?

About the Glenn Beck rape and murder story.

I’ve heard this story for years. It is said to have taken place in 1990 or there abouts. Beck refuses to address it and will hang-up on any caller to his radio show if the caller asks him about it.

But, one thing is certain: there is a genuine police report, so you have to make your own conclusions about Beck’s character. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s true.

  19. pobept says:

Anyone with the title of ‘Czar’ has no place in American government!
We don’t need more government bureaucrats on the payroll. We need smaller more responsive government.

  20. JollyRoger says:

JollyRoger – I’ll bet you believe in Big Foot and UFOs, too.

On the one hand you attempt to defile and trash a person’s reputation purely on the basis of rumor, while on the other hand demonstrating an inability to process truth.

    Simply amazing.

Why is it you right wing douchebags get all bent out of shape when your own tactics are turned around on you? Spare me your sanctimonious bullshit; I’ve been suffering through lie after lie after lie ever since that scary darkie got himself elected.

  21. JollyRoger says:

But, one thing is certain: there is a genuine police report, so you have to make your own conclusions about Beck’s character. Personally, I wouldn’t be surprised if it’s true.

I don’t know if it is true or not that Glenn Beck raped and murdered a young girl in 1990, but he sure hasn’t done anything to make anyone not believe that he raped and murdered a young girl in 1990, has he?

  22. Stephan Iversonn says:

Anyone with the title of ‘Czar’ has no place in American government!

Conservative obsession with the use of the word “Czar” is just another manifestation of Obama Derangement Syndrome.

The following presidents used the term “Czar” to describe a person who heads up a department or program:

    Dwight Eisenhower
    John F. Kennedy
    Richard M. Nixon
    Jimmy Carter
    Ronald Reagan
    George HW Bush
    William Jefferson Clinton
    George W. Bush
    Barack Hussein Obama

Yet, the wingnuts are frothing at the mouth and coughing up blood over Obama’s use of the word.

  23. Mets Fan says:

There’s a police report of the incident?

Well, if anyone can get their hands on it and post it for everyone to see, there won’t be any question as to whether Glenn Prick was involved in a rape and murder.

  24. Andrew Conte says:

Rick says Obama lost his balls right after he was sworn in. WRONG!!! He lost them before that. His pick of homophobe Rick Warren solidified that. Obama is truly ballless.

  25. libhomo says:

There were some major moneyed interests behind the crusade against Jones. Jones has been an excellent campaigner for green jobs and against global warming. Corporations that make products that emit CO2 wanted him gone.

  26. Brigadoon says:

So we’ve reached a point in national politics when an extremist cable TV host, with a shadowy, questionable personal history that includes alcoholism and, possibly rape and murder, is now making staff decisions for the administration?

  27. Idaho Librul says:

So President Obama, allegedly the most powerful man in the world, caved to Glenn Beck?

No wonder we’re not going to get the public option in any healthcare reform bill.

It would require standing up the scary insurance CEOs and we know how loathe Mr. Obama is to have a confrontation.

    Unreal. I give up.

  28. Douglass Lewis says:

14.9 million unemployed Americans + one.

Maybe Glenn Beck should just go ahead and submit his termination list to President Obama to act on before the Wednesday speech to the Joint Sessions of Congress? Just clean house immediately.

In fact, I’ll go a step further. Who needs the the FBI to vet anyone when we have Glenn Beck, Michelle Malkin, Sean Hannity, Bill O’Reilly, Rush Limbaugh and Alex Jones?

  29. Rob says:

I didn’t know Glenn Beck moonlighted as Rahm Emanuel? When did HE dictate personnel changes in the White House?

  30. You are right, Andrew. And apparently Beck, feeling empowered, is going to go after Cass Sunshine next. Given his advice to Obama re: constitutional issues, pardon me when I fail to shed a tear. One term indeed. And I hope his primary challenger wins. Whoever the fuck it is.

  31. Yellowknife says:

Cass Sunshine, followed by Valerie Jarrett.

Perhaps next, Glenn Beck will launch a tirade against Joe Biden and President Obama will replace him, too?

I thought the Obama administration would stand taller in the face of FOX News attacks but I was very much wrong. FOX News is firmly in control of the Obama White House.

  32. Scott Dancer says:

Van Jones was an unusual member of the Obama administration.

Unlike Obama’s other, lesser picks, like Bush holdover Robert Gates, or Clinton remnant and AIPAC insider Rahm Emanuel, and unlike Wall Street whore Tim Geithner, Van Jones came from the grassroots and was a tireless advocate for the people.

No wonder FOX News decided he had to go.

The most troubling aspect of this embarrassing spectacle was the utter lack of support for Jones from Obama. He just stood by and allowed Glenn Beck to dictate who would be allowed to serve the president.

Maybe the public option will allow Mr. Obama to get a spine transplant?

  33. JollyRoger says:

I thought the Obama administration would stand taller in the face of FOX News attacks but I was very much wrong. FOX News is firmly in control of the Obama White House.

I hate to say I told you so, but….

I didn’t think he would. I hoped I was wrong. It was just that his whole record of votes left me with the impression that he was only a tick or two away from being a DINO.

As much as I despised Hill, I have to believe now that she would have stood firmer against these scums. She’s taken their heat for years and she’s more or less ready to produce claws and teeth on them.

  34. Adirondacky says:

Why do the choices come down to a Clinton or a Bush? In a nation of 306 million people, only a Clinton or a Bush has the bona fides to lead the country? Who decided this?

  35. D.R.Scott says:

Let’s compare our new President and our old President, shall we?

Mr. “Yes We Can” throws Van Jones under the bus because of Glenn Beck.

However, after Katrina, Bush smirks, “You’re doing a heckuva job, Brownie!” Reading between the the lies, this translates as “Sure, you’re an incompetent idiot, but you’re my incompetent idiot!” Whatever else you can say about Bush, he was loyal to his guys.

No, I’m not sorry I voted for Obama, It’s getting harder every day, though.

  36. Mike Wurlitzer says:

Boy it is amazing some of you people can walk and chew gum at the same time.

Here are the methods used by the left:

If you use a person’s own words, speeches, videos where they call themselves a “communist” you are a nut job or raped and killed a woman. (like Teddy?)

If you use a person’s own words, speeches, videos where they claim white people are spraying poisons on people of color then you are an idiot.

If you use a person’s own words, speeches, videos where they called almost 1/2 the USA’s population A. Holes then you are a moron. I guess the left only has to read one book and that is “Rules for Radicals”

And remember, if all else fails, deflect and say well Bush did it!

  37. lea-lea says:

Were you high or drunk when you posted this? It makes no sense whatsoever.

Republicans are assholes, and few would disagree. To your assertion half the country are Republicans, you don’t keep up with political science do you?

The country now has more independents than either Dem or Repug. Sorry to have to school you but someone had to do it.

  38. Agent of Truth says:

People need to wake up the fact that Glenn Beck is simply another opinion pushing charlatan who is a product of mormon cult theology that he mixes with parts of Catholicism and his personal core as a dry alcoholic. And for the record, he is a Mormon and not a Christian. The two are not the same as one is a cult and the other is a religion. This makes Glenn Beck one very twisted screwed up moron who sold his soul to the lowest common denominator of personal stupidity. And for the record…the religion of Islam has far more in common with Christianity than the mormon cult.

Glenn Beck can be summarized simply as a dry mormon alcoholic who never got the counseling required for alcoholics. Those are his only qualifications for anything in life as he never went to college and definitely knows nothing about American History or the US Constitution. Because he does not possess a single ounce of journalistic integrity, this makes him the perfect abortion poster child for Fox Network. Considering the fact that Beck’s personal views are extreme Marxist Libertarian, his form of patriotism is false and he is a person who has no real substance or depth. He is definitely not a true conservative. As with Joseph Smith or that 5th grade graduate who started the Jehovah’s Witness Cult, this over-paid idiot (Glenn Beck) got in bed with Satan a very long time ago. It’s really all about the money as hate, lies, promotion of ignorance and fear mongering are the only marketable skills that Glenn Beck has on his side and he has a growing flock of very impressionable idiots who do not understand the difference between a cult and a religion or truth & facts versus lies.

Glenn Beck consistently demonstrates all the unstable behaviors of a dry alcoholic which include grandiosity, judgmentalism, intolerance, impulsivity, ADD, indecisiveness and blindness to truth. In short, Beck, Limbaugh, O Reilly, Hannity, Palin, O Donnell, Coulter and others like them frequently pervert truth, history, facts, religion and the US Constitution when they open their big mouths. Beck is simply part of a national league of pseudo-conservative idiots who make big money by selling lies and half truths to impressionable fools who occupy the lowest levels of society. Basically…tea baggers and registered republicans who are condemned to repeat the mistakes of history.
