Boston Cop: Professor Henry Louis Gates is a “Jungle Monkey’’

Thursday, July 30, 2009

I wonder if this story will make President Obama to rethink his decision to have a beer with Sgt. James Crowley, who arrested Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates for entering his own home?

According to the Boston Globe:

The Boston Police Department has been suspended Officer Justin Barrett for referring Harvard Professor Henry Louis Gates as a “jungle monkey’’ in the letter written to colleagues at the National Guard in response to the news coverage of Gates’s arrest on July 16th. Barrett was suspended Tuesday, pending a termination hearing.

Whoopsie! What do we have here, ladies and gentleman? One of Boston’s finest penning a racist-laced email about an esteemed, African American Harvard professor? I hope President Obama learned his lesson and avoids weighing in on this or he might be forced to invite Officer Barrett out to Martha’s Vineyard for the weekend.

These events show that racism is a national problem.

  2. Rachel says:

Absolutely sickening rhetoric. This goes straight to the heart of law enforcement’s racism and supports what so many minorities say they deal with every day in this country. This cop is an asshole and he deserves to lose his job. Taxpayers should not be paying his salary and benefits.

  3. emcee says:

I guess we haven’t moved past calling African Americans monkeys even though we elected a black man president. In Dorchester, known as a neighborhood with a high concentration of blacks, using the word “monkey” means Officer Justin Barrett holds the folks in his beat in contempt.

    Fire him. Fire him now.

  4. fairlane says:

This dude, Goddamn, as I said in my last post, I’ve run out of adjectives for these people.

The fact so many of them survive adolescence is a slap in the to Natural Selection.

  5. Woodcliffe says:

    “To Protect and Serve.”

As long as you’re white and middle-class. This cop is a disgrace and should move to Macon, GA. He has no business living in suburban Boston.

  6. V.E.G. says:

Grinsteads and the Driggers are not going to like this due to the rude remark.

  7. Officer Barrett acted “stupidly”. Oh, but this time it’s ok to use the “s” word because he is openingly racist but it’s not ok, when an officer arrests a black senior citizen in his own home for not being nice to the officer. But that officer had black friends so that mean’s he’s good.

I think it’s going to take a whole heck of alot of beer to solve race relations not just 3.

Officer Justin Barrett calls Prof. Henry Louis Gates a “jungle monkey.’’

Jerkoff, it’s 2009 and not 1969. You’re an officer of the law and not a bartender.

    Wise up.

  9. R.J. says:

There’s a reason why this Mexican blares “Fuck Tha Police” every now and then on his car stereo.

  10. Jeff says:

    RJ,

I’m guessing you do that because you want, need, and deserve to be harassed by law enforcement? Because you are, you know, a Mexican.

I mean, you admit to it and everything.

    Alert Lou Dobbs!

  11. Arizona Leatherneck says:

This cop needs his ass kicked.

I hate racist cops. I would love to show him some “civilian” love.
