FOX News Pundit Suggests Taliban Should Execute Captured 23-Year Old American Soldier

Sunday, July 19, 2009

FOX News has jumped the proverbial shark and entered the realm of treason by booking guest pundit, Ralph Peters who said (without knowing the facts) that the captured 23-year old American soldier, Bowe Bergdahl, “appears” to have “deserted his unit”, and the Taliban should “save us the headache” and execute the captured American soldier.

Really folks, what is it going to take for the FCC to pull FOX’s license once and for all? If the U.S. is in fact, “a nation at war,” as we were told repeatedly by the previous administration, then what FOX News did was tantamount to purposely acting to aid our enemies.

  1. Scott Dancer says:

I am drafting a formal letter to the FCC tomorrow morning and I will have my secretary Fed Ex it to Washington DC.

This is beyond the usual ‘red meat’ type idiocy we’re accustomed to at Fox. These comments are treason and could lead to the death of Mr. Bowe Bergdahl.

We do not say such things on the record when there’s an American prisoner of war involved. In times past, people have been jailed, or worse, for making such a comment.

Thanks for keeping us informed. I don’t watch Rupert’s circus, so I rely on bloggers like you to keep me up to date.

  2. Big Hank says:

Who the f**k is Ralph Peters?

It seems FIXED Noise always has a fresh supply of these morons to parade before the camera. But this goes too far and there needs to be consequences.

  3. mbmdl says:

This isn’t what I need to read before I retire for the night and try to sleep 6 hours. OK, I will join Scott and fire off a letter to the FCC tomorrow. At least there’s a record then, and they have to get back to me.

  4. Arizona Leatherneck says:

The asshole on this youtube is probably at most, guilty of what’s called “petty treason.”

It’s sufficient to get his ass kicked, if you know what I mean.

  5. What a God-awful man! He was careful to qualify his statements, but still crossed the line in a very big way. Add me to the list of those who will complain to the FCC via overnight mail. I do not expect that it will do one iota of good, though.

  6. bradfrmphnx says:

I can not imagine the fear that must be coursing through this young soldier’s veins right now. Knowing what is the usual outcome for those captured by these horrendously cruel people.

And for Ralph Peters to make such a crass statement as this is abominable in this situation. How could one person be so inhuman to the plight of others?

  7. unfortunately Fox News does not need a license – so there is nothing to pull. as a cable channel they are not under the auspices of the FCC for anything related to content. we are stuck with them and with that fat fuck Roger Ailes.

FOX TV Network (who brings us such fine drek as American Idol) also does not have a license

the FOX tv stations do have licenses (like Ch 5 in NY, Ch 11 in LA etc) and they can have challenges and have their licenses revoked (although that rarely happen, not matter the reason)

the only thing you can do is boycott and write to FOX’s advertisers

which i highly suggest – i can even get a list

  8. Michael says:

Stand this piece of shit against a wall, right next to Rupert Shitlock, and give me access to an AK-47!

  9. Joe in Colorado says:

The details about why Bergdahl wandered off from his base in eastern Afghanistan are unknown. Did he go off to pee? Smoke a joint? Take a break? How far did he get? A few hundred feet? A mile? None of this has been released by the Pentagon, so for FOX to have this clown on who states Bergdahl was deserting in irresponsible and opens the door to something very bad happening by his captors.

  10. feminazi says:

Oh for the love of God? What the hell is the matter with FOX News? This is an American citizen, a US soldier and he’s a prisoner of war. What right does FOX have to give a greenlight for the execution of an American? None, that’s what. Is this young man is killed, FOX will have blood on their hands and I hope his parents bring a lawsuit against the network resulting in such huge liability that they’re forced to stop broadcasting.

  11. Brigadoon says:

I think Arizona Leatherneck is correct. At best, all we can hope for is a case arguing petty treason against this Ralph Peters cat. I’ve seen Ann Coulter make threats against sitting Federal judges and not a damned thing happened to her. But, flip off Bush or tell Cheney to “go fuck himself” and the Secret Service will make a visit to your home.

  12. Blonde4Peace says:

Didn’t the Viet Cong parade John McCain and force him to make anti-American statements? Yet, John Kerry is villified for coming home and then making statements. The Right Wing is nothing but a bunch of war-whores who spew fear and hate. Ralph Peters better not “lag behind” or God knows what could happen to him!

  13. Great comments all!

I like the idea of boycotting Murdock’s advertisers. I was involved in the effective boycott campaign of “Dr.” Laura Schlessinger and Viacom several years ago and we were able to get the plug pulled on her program.

Nothing talks like money and advertising profits pay the rent, the light bill and salaries.

  14. Harsh words. Even more wow.

  15. VicoDANIEL says:

I did a little digging and it turns out this Ralph Peters douchebag is retired military — Army and is married to Katherine McIntire Peters, who is a reporter for Government Executive magazine owned by the rightwing National Journal.

Peters is also a novelist who writes under the pen name of Owen Parry.

He was an early and vocal supporter of the Iraq war invasion and had a bit of controversy in 1997 from an article titled “Constant Conflict” when he wrote:

“There will be no peace. At any given moment for the rest of our lifetimes, there will be multiple conflicts in mutating forms around the globe. Violent conflict will dominate the headlines, but cultural and economic struggles will be steadier and ultimately more decisive. The de facto role of the US armed forces will be to keep the world safe for our economy and open to our cultural assault. To those ends, we will do a fair amount of killing.”

He’s a rigid, radical rightwing, neoconservative who neither CNN or MSNBC refuses to book as a guest because his views are seen as too “out there” for mainstream media. Which explains why FIXED Noise was all too happy to guest him.

From everything I read, people in the military and in the Pentagon have tried to distance themselves from Peters because of his views.

  16. Aunt Peg says:

    Appalling. Simply appalling.

  17. Just imagine the absolute fear this soldier must be feeling. Not only is his life in great danger, he is being abandoned and not given support by people he fought to “defend.”

  19. Jimmy says:

I recall Peters from the lead-up to the Iraqi invasion and I remember thinking he was a tool. To say what he said, with no regard for the family of Bowe Bergdahl, indicates that he still is a tool.

  20. libhomo says:

Boycotting Faux News advertisers is the way to go.

  21. Jim says:

A new low, even for Fixed Noise network. This jerk should have his head delivered to the Taliban as reward for working for them. How nauseating that some fat shit sitting in a studio should comment at all on a young man fearing for his life.
And yes, Fox should have its license pulled. If the world can be turned upside down because of a tit flashed on tv, then surely this “news” network can be slammed with a tidy fine.

  22. cri_de_coeur says:

PLEASE…..PLEASE!!!! Help me! I have a son currently serving in Afghanistan. I am trying to find this so called patriot, armchair Colonels’s mailing address. Does anyone know how we can find it?

Oh, and have you heard the latest? He was on some radio talk show questioning Bergdahl’s love life.

Despicable, deplorable, detestable sorry excuse of a man.

I was glad to see that 23 Congressmen (former Vets) wrote a letter to Faux News demanding an apology to the Bergdahl family.

  23. kozzmo says:

There may be a basis for sanctioning Fox News for that but it’s not “treason.” Anyone who has read and remembers the constitution knows America hasn’t been at war since 1945, when the last war declared by Congress officially ended. Since then, Congress has never declared a war and nobody should be under any legal constraint to consider someone “the enemy.”
If you can apply treason to the enemie-du-jour of an undeclared war, where will it stop? Will talking to a drug dealer be “treason” because of the “war on drugs?” John Walker Lindh joined the Taliban before they were “the enemy,” after which he couldn’t just quit (and be shot). Any American overseas will be risking their freedom talking to a foreigner, since the shifting tides of the “war on terror” can declare any foreigner “the enemy” in a heartbeat, and the unlucky American guilty of treason by association.
Better to call it “reckless endangerment.” Don’t apply the laws of loyalty when there is no war!
