Obama’s DOJ Issues Pithy Statement Regarding Their Defense of DOMA

Saturday, June 13, 2009

This is rich.

The homophobic Obama Justice Department e-mailed Politico the following short statement justifying it’s defense of DOMA:

As it generally does with existing statutes, the Justice Department is defending the law on the books in court. The president has said he wants to see a legislative repeal of the Defense of Marriage Act because it prevents LGBT couples from being granted equal rights and benefits. However, until Congress passes legislation repealing the law, the administration will continue to defend the statute when it is challenged in the justice system.

President Obama campaigned on a promise to repeal both DOMA and DADT. If he had even a scintilla of courage, he would call the Democratic leadership of the House and the Senate to the Oval Office and direct Ms. Pelosi and Mr. Reid to have bills repealing both DOMA and DADT on his desk by the end of next week for him to sign. But this would require courage — something in short supply when it comes to this president.

  1. Shaw Kenawe says:

The Obama administration has disappointed me on this.

MLK once said that those who are opposed to equal rights usually say “now is not the time,” or “not yet.”

Now is EXACTLY the time. We have to get rid of the DOMA and DADT idiocy this government supports.

Civil rights, equal rights RIGHT NOW.

I’m writing to my Senators, Kerry and Kennedy and telling them that this has to happen NOW.

  2. lea-lea says:

I am very close to writing Obama off over this.

He reminds me of the people they profile on cable networks like Discovery Channel who win the lottery and go from poverty to riches overnight.

They forget they friends and family and when they blast through their winnings and go back to poverty, they wonder why no one wants anything to do with them.

    Wise up, Barack.

  3. Mauigirl says:

That explanation doesn’t cut it, to me. To your point, then ask the Congress to repeal the law!

  4. emcee says:

I thought Nancy Pelosi is Barry’s homegirl?

What’s the delay then? Get it the hell done.

  5. Robster says:

I still wonder if President Obama is waiting until he’s a lame duck to do anything, if at all.

  6. MacDaddy says:

Now that he’s gotten into office, President Obama is thinking too legally. This stuff can be done by executive order.

  7. proudprogressive says:

sreams loud enough to be heard in Rochester and Syracuse and from sea to shining fucking sea

  8. proudprogressive says:

He has to ask congress , how the hell can this come from the bottom down – we got like 9 gizzillion fronts of injustice …and what galls me , is he knows this.

ask congress, yeah ask congress. – we are calling asking writing all the time about bills. This is betrayal – of the highest order. My rice is so steamed right now/

    i need to stop here.

  9. The Magus says:

Wake up…Obama has always been a FRAUD and it’s time some of you start admitting it. You also owe Hillary an apology and PUMA. Don’t bother responding to my post because I’m not coming back to this site. I’m disgusted by Obama and his twisted fools who bought every lie, every myth, every deception. He duped this country and his most fervent surpporters….DON’T you get it yet??? WHEN WILL YOU GET IT?

  10. Walk on Socks says:

As an African American living in the U.S., I just assumed Obama would be more sensitive to issues that have a direct impact on other minorities.

    I guess I was wrong.

  11. stradella says:

Socks – Keep one thing in mind.

Obama is only half black. Nevermind the “one drop” rule.

When he pusses out like this on gay issues, it’s his white side coming through.

  12. proudprogressive says:

I will never apologize to the billarys out there, thats for sure, Clinton layed the ground work – jeebus look at the cabinette – however i did hope his very being , his core, of being “othered” would make him more sensitive – so this is politics two no one business party.

    – if anything i could wish bout now is that any third party has a real chance in this idiotic electoral process of ours – it bankrupted the nation , exhausted people – i swear they want us in civil unrest – who benefits ?

being a political football is exhausting – we deserve our full equality the bible is not the f’ing constitution and the reasoning in the case was written by a morman left over from the Bush admin. I mean seriously – its no wonder some people just shut down regarding politics. The democrats…the democrats. Hope smope.

  13. Arizona Leatherneck says:

Obama is very worried about how the right and the religious community view him.

In fact, I get the impression he’s so besotted with his own legend that he stands prepared to tell the left — radicals, liberals, gays, progressives, et al, they can go to hell.

His real worry is what Mitch McConnell, Newt Gingrich, Sarah Palin and FOX News thinks.

  14. bradfrmphnx says:

    Very Clintonesque.

  15. Jim says:

I’m sick of being pushed to the back of the bus. Enough of this do-nothing president.

  16. Arizona: He isn’t poised to tell the left to go to hell, he already has told us that. With pretty words, and indirectly, but actions speak louder than words.
