Bill O’Reilly’s Campaign Against Murdered Doctor

Monday, June 1, 2009

story

Dr. George Tiller was shot and killed while serving as an usher at his Wichita, Kansas, church Sunday morning. Tiller was one of the few U.S. physicians who still performed late-term abortions and had survived a 1993 shooting outside his clinic.

Is FOX News personality, Bill O’Reilly partially responsible for Tiller’s death?

No other media personality than Bill O’Reilly bears as much responsibility for the characterization of Dr. Tiller as a savage on the loose, killing babies for $5,000 a pop. Tiller’s name first appeared on “The Factor” on Feb. 25, 2005 and since then, O’Reilly and his guest hosts have brought up the doctor on 28 more episodes, including as recently as April 27 of this year. Invariably,  describing the doctor as “Tiller the Baby Killer.”

O’Reilly frequently linked Tiller to his longtime obsession, child molestation and rape. Because a young teenager who received an abortion from Tiller could, by definition, have been a victim of statutory rape, O’Reilly suggested that the clinic was somehow covering up for child rapists by refusing to release records on the abortions performed. HIPPA rules be damned.

The characterization of Dr. Tiller as a “baby killer” fits quite perfectly into the insane, organization of reality that typifies the radical, religious right. Dr. Tiller, according to Bill O’Reilly (as well as guest hosts Michelle Malkin and Laura Ingraham), was a decadent, Christ-child hating, elite who finally paid the price for his sins on “judgment day” in a church no less, in Wichita, KS.

This is an excellent blog piece, Christopher. I don’t watch O’Reilly but I know rightwing AM radio has used abortion and the doctors who perform the procedure as a rallying cry for decades. One doctor, a woman, who practiced in Minnesota, was literally forced to sell her house and relocate after rightwing AM radio leaked her address on-air and the threats to her life began almost immediately. O’Reilly and his minions should be held criminally responsible for Tiller’s assassination.

  2. Matteo says:

Dr. George Tiller’s murder is just the latest in a long list of attacks on doctors and clinics who perform legal abortion.

    Check this out.

  3. TOM339 says:

However you personally feel about abortion, the fact is, the procedure is legal and no one has the right to flame the embers of the pro-life movement by inciting people to kill doctors who perform abortion.

At very least, O’Reilly needs to be charged as a co-conspirator in the killing of Dr. George Tiller. His rhetoric has been dangerous and irresponsible.

This is no different than poking a stick at an already angry junkyard dog.

  4. Estacada says:

I saw where Randall Terry, founder of anti-abortion group Operation Rescue, issued a statement calling Dr. George Tiller “a mass murderer” and said he is “more concerned about the Obama’s reaction than the murder itself.”

The FBI had better keep a close eye on this guy and the people on Operation Rescue’s mailing list.

  5. woyoyo says:

Too bad Bill O’Reilly wasn’t aborted 60-odd years ago before he had the chance to wreck the havoc he’s responsible for.

Go ahead, tell me how the world wouldn’t be a better place without him in it?

  6. libhomo says:

This is another example of why people should boyott Faux News and the rest of Rupert Murdoch’s fascist media empire.

  7. retahyajyajav says:

Tonight, I plan to watch Billo just to see how he tries to spin this.

You just know his producers are already helping him prep his “CYA” special segment to back away from any culpability.

    He’s despicable.

  8. Walk on Socks says:

The religious right is built on a foundation of lies and hypocrisy.

    They’re opposed to abortion but,
    - Embrace capital punishment

    They’re opposed to abortion but,
    - Slaughter doctors who perform abortions

They’re opposed to gay marriage but,
    - Have affairs, get divorced and in the case of Ted Haggard, engaged in meth-fueled sex with a male hustler.

Well, fuck you Bible thumpers. And fuck Bill O’Reilly, too.

  9. lea-lea says:

This “Angry Latina” hates, truly hates Bill O’Reilly and all the freak-a-zoids who appear on FIXED Noise.

    Scumbags, one and all.

  10. Robster says:

For the first time in my life, I’m going to tune into The O’Reilly Factor just so I can see if BillO takes any culpability for what happened yesterday.

  11. Aunt Peg says:

The kook who killed Dr. George Tiller is O’Reilly’s core audience. These are his viewers and he appeals directly to their Neanderthal mentality.

I worry about this country. I am deeply concerned.

Have we really reach a point in 2009, where we go out and kill the people we disagree with? This is the 21st century — not the 19th century, where people were killed for not attending church.

    Grow the hell up, America.

  12. There is no doubt in my mind that Dr. Tiller was killed because of the constant attention he got from Bill O’Reilly. O’Reilly also created a culture that killed him. I do think he has blood on his hands.

Dr. Tiller was a hero, a brave man, and a patroit allowing women to fufill their constitutional rights. If you actually read the legal opinions of Scalia/Thomas/Alito/Roberts you will see clearly how they also support the right to a legal abortion on the statewide level. But wait they’re…pro-life?!?

  14. Big Hank says:

Words are powerful. So is rhetoric.

Repeatedly calling Dr. Tiller a “baby killer” sent a message to his already unhinged viewers. Call it tacit support.

  15. bradfrmphnx says:

I was so pissed off I had to erase everything I wrote.

Not many people understand why late term abortions take place. They usually are children who would be born without a brain, or had an arm growing where their ear would be or something along those lines. These children would have very little chance of surviving more than a few moments outside the womb. They can also be made if the Mother’s life is in jeopardy. Abortion is only legal in most state’s during the first trimester.

The reason why these procedures aren’t done earlier is because they don’t use ultrasounds too much during the first trimester. So if there is a developmental problem with the fetus it often goes unnoticed until later in the pregnancy.

Asshat O’Fuckhead would have you believe the Doctor enjoyed sucking the brains out of a helpless little child about to be born. NOTHING could be further from the truth.

  16. there is no doubt o’reilly’s words and constant spewing of hate contributed to this murder.

every advertiser on his show needs to be exposed and boycotted

  17. A really great article. I have been following this on MSNBC. I especially liked the talk on the Rachel Maddow show between her and Frank Schaeffer. I am glad to see that some people are willing to step up and face the fire for what they did and come out the better for it.

  18. Dick Small says:

George Tiller killed over 60,000 children, who otherwise would have arrived into this world healthy. I’m glad he’s gone.

  19. Colby Carr says:

First of all, the left-wing media has reported that O’reilly influenced the person who killed Tiller to commit the crime. That is going to be the excuse that any extreme left-wing nutcase comes up with. O’reilly was the only reporter who had the guts to talk about Tiller while the others did not say a word specifically about Tiller. It has been proven that Tiller took part in late term abortions for casual reasons. It is normal for a “left-winger” to support death of fetuses and be pro-abortion, I get that. It is not okay to suggest that someone should be prosecuted for reporting facts and not opinions. The person who killed Tiller was a nutcase and that’s all there is to it. It seems to me that the current democratic strategy is “if you can’t dazzle the people with brilliance, blind them with stupidity.” You all should rely more upon facts and not bigotry.
