Anti-gay marriage supporter and former eBay CEO, Meg Whitman, officially submitted her paperwork to run for California governor, according to the Sacramento Bee.
“The move by the billionaire businesswoman sets up what’s expected to be an expensive, 17-month auction between herself and Insurance Commissioner Steve Poizner in the 2010 Republican primary.”
Whitman is rumored to be a Mormon. She’s an oddity among Silicon Valley Republicans, who tend to be social moderates more concerned about lowering taxes and less government regulation than opposing gay rights. However, Whitman, was a vocal supporter of California’s bigoted and controversial Proposition 8, which banned same-sex marriage.
