Ted Haggard: Still Gay

Haggard New Allegations

If I saw this guy coming at me I would definitely switch teams.

Disgraced evangelical leader Ted Haggard’s former church disclosed Friday that the gay sex scandal responsible for his downfall now extends to a young male church volunteer who reported having a sexual relationship with Haggard just as Haggard tries to become heterosexual.

Brady Boyd, who succeeded Haggard as senior pastor of the 10,000-member New Life Church in Colorado Springs, told the Associated Press the man came forward to church officials in late 2006 shortly after a Denver male prostitute claimed to have had a three-year cash-for-sex relationship with Haggard.

Boyd said there was an “overwhelming pool of evidence” and pointed to an “inappropriate, consensual sexual relationship” that “went on for a long period of time — it wasn’t a one-time act.” Boyd said the man was in his early 20s at the time. He said he was certain the man was of legal age when it began.

Reached Friday night, Haggard declined to comment and said all interviews would have to be arranged through a publicist for HBO, which is airing a documentary about him this month.

Is HBO really airing a documentary about this guy? No wonder they’re losing subscribers. Just bring back Oz for another season. Oz was intriguing, quality drama.

I loved Oz! Oz was the only drama on cable where I could see hot, naked men and feel their energy without watching porn. Plus, the cast were excellent actors, too.

  2. Dmitris says:

You know what they say: “Once you’re gay, you’re here to stay!”

  3. lea-lea says:

I have so many gay male friends and I just love them unconditionally.

I think it is a human tragedy for people jerked around by a group of corrupt, Bible thumpers who refuse to let this poor man be who he really is, which is a gay man.

And why does his wife tolerate this insanity? Wouldn’t Mrs. Haggard be happier with a straight husband?

  4. kellybelle says:

Your headline is hysterical! LOL. But it captures something the misguided fundies don’t understand–Gay is how God made him. It can’t, and shouldn’t, be undone.

  5. Big Hank says:

If I saw Ted Haggard coming at me I would never have sex again.

    With either team!

Kellybelle is correct. God, or Allah, or Buddha, or the Flying Spaghetti Monster made Ted gay. The lunatics orbiting him need to back off and leave the man alone.

  6. JollyRoger says:

These Pentecostals have more skeletons rattling around in their closets than a Pol Pot “rural cooperative” has.

They’ve all got problems, by all appearances. They are either unable to deal with who they are, or they are unable to leave the kiddies alone, or both.

  7. BradFrmPhnx says:

I just wrote a big long winded, and probably inapropriate comment about Ted. (Had to erase it out of respect for Christopher.)I’ve followed his downfall with much glee. His hypocrisy puts him at the bottom of my list. I first caught wind of him as a religous advisor to the Bush’s. Then I watched a movie about a religious boot camp for children in N. Dakota where a young man’s life dream was realised by meeting him, “Jesus Camp”. If it was possible for me to hate, it would be Ted. I appreciate this opportunity to scorn him once more, but I really hope I never hear his name spoke again….unless its his obituary.

  8. retahyajyajav says:

    Ted, get a grip.

You’re gay, nothing wrong with it. The problem originates with the people surrounding you. They shake their Bibles at you and tell you you have no worth.

They got it backward, man. Jettison these people and start being real.

  9. libhomo says:

I am so sick of the media acting like it’s a scandal that this guy is gay. The only real scandals are his homophobia and hypocrisy.

  10. Jim says:

Apparently, post “Sopranos” HBO will give ANYbody a TV special.

  11. Randy Arroyo says:

I guess in the world of the religious right, no one has sex and there are no gay or lesbians? Sorry, but if you believe this, I want you to recall the Catholic church. All those baby skeletons in the basement of the Vatican didn’t get there by accident.

  12. Ted is just another self loathing closet case. Unfortunately they are the product of generations of homophobia that is encouraged and entrenched by religious institutions who are hell bent on ridding the world of us homo’s.

  13. Jenna Bush Stole My ID says:

I feel sorry for Ted Haggard. Really, I do.

He’s a pathetic man, trapped in the world of the religious right and their deeply ingrained homophobic beliefs.
