Caroline Kennedy, who is seeking the soon-to-be-vacated U.S. Senate seat held by Hillary Clinton, is sharing some of her political opinions with the people she’s campaigning to represent.

Following in the solid liberal tradition of uncle Ted Kennedy and rejecting Barack Obama’s regressive position on the subject, Kennedy says she fully supports same-sex marriage.

A Kennedy spokesman drafted seven written answers to the eight questions submitted by Politico to the 51-year-old attorney, author and electoral novice.

QUESTION 2: Same-sex marriage. Do you support the right of gay and lesbian couples to marry?

ANSWER: “Caroline supports full equality and marriage rights for gay and lesbian couples.”

Psst, don’t tell Barack Obama’s BFF, Rick Warren!

  1. Harry says:

Woo hoo! Way to go, Caroline! I always liked her and I’m glad to hear she’s much more courageous than our president-elect.

  2. kellybelle says:

I’m out of the loop a little. Why does it seem people aren’t feeling Caroline Kennedy? She’s a living Kennedy and she’s liberal. If people could warm up to Hillary CLinton as junior senator from NY they should be able to warm up to anybody.

  3. Jim says:

How refreshing to hear from someone open, honest, and direct.

  4. Aunt Peg says:

One of the things I admire about Caroline Kennedy is the fact she’s a real liberal in the tradition that gave us her father, and both her uncles.

    Look at gay marriage.

Even President-elect Obama isn’t warm to the idea of gay marriage (and he’s younger than Ms. Kennedy) and pals around with Rick Warren who happens to be a raging homophobe.

Caroline Kennedy will be a terrific New York senator.

  5. Woodcliffe says:

Caroline Kennedy will be 1000 times better than Hillary Clinton.

I hope Gov. Patterson appoints her. New York needs a genuine liberal Democrat in the Senate and now another DINO Dem, like Hillary.

  6. Brigadoon says:

Caroline Kennedy is terrific and she will make a great senator. New Yorkers are lucky to have her.

  7. Bruce says:

Maybe she should be president. Her stance on gay rights is change I can believe in.

  8. not born yesterday says:

i found her answer, when i read it, to be far short of what the
headlines indicated. she says “marriage RIGHTS” . she doesn’t say she
supports “same-sex marriage.” those against gay marriage often say
they support marriage “rights” in the form of civil
unions/partnerships etc. but it is clear that even hetero,
gay-friendly pols dare not relinquish the M word! and c. kennedy is no
    different.
i tried to search for blogs/stories that pick up on this distinction
(NOT without a difference!), and in a cursory search, i found a
commenter on a blog who caught this. i definitely don’t think it’s an
accident the ? was answered in this way.

QUESTION 2: Same-sex marriage. Do you support the right of gay and
lesbian couples to marry? Do you think it’s appropriate that Rick
Warren, who campaigned to ban gay marriage, is delivering the
invocation at Obama’s inauguration? If not, have you expressed that to
    the president-elect?

ANSWER: “Caroline supports full equality and marriage rights for gay
    and lesbian couples.”
