Joe Scarborough Drops the “F” Bomb on Live TV

Monday, November 10, 2008

Joe Scarborough, the rightwing host of MSNBC’s Morning Joe, dropping the “F” bomb this morning on live television. Will the FCC go batshit crazy the same way they did a few years ago when the country got an unexpected 2 second glimpse of Janet Jackson’s nipple? Ultimately, the FCC fined CBS $230,000 for Miss Jackson’s wardrobe malfunction.

Don’t expect the FCC to fine MSNBC for Scarborough’s morning potty mouth. Not because Morning Joe is on cable but, because the FCC is still run by Bush appointees and Joe Scarborough is, after all, a Bush-licking Republican. The rules for Republicans are different.

Imagine if it had been Keith Olbermann who dropped the “F” bomb during Countdown? The religious right would be screeching at full volume, demanding his suspension or worse, his termination.

I didn’t think you could say “fuck you” on cable during the morning hours when kids are home? I wonder if the FCC will take action? Like you said, since Scarborough is a conservative, the FCC will most likely laugh it off.

  2. joost says:

I couldn’t care less what Pig Eyes says because he is a Republican and I expect the worst from him.

But, if Janet Jackson’s sad little nipple became a national obsession, then the FCC needs to spank Pig Eyes equally for dropping the “F” bomb.

Here’s a link to the FCC if you want to file a complaint.

  3. Rachel says:

I don’t watch the Joe and Mika Show because they’re anti-Obama and unapologetically pro-GOP. I don’t turn on MSNBC until Keith and Rachel are on at 8PM and 9PM respectively. I sure hope this leads to Joe and Mika losing the show. They’re nauseating and I would love to see them off the air.

  4. Harry says:

Rachel – From your lips to the FCC’s ears! I can’t stand Joe and Mika. Along with David Gregory, they’re the weakest links on MSNBC.

  5. Joe in Colorado says:

ROFL! Mike Barnicle looked like he shit his pants after Scarborough let the “F” word rip. You don’t see slip ups like this very often on TV because the potential repercussions are too grave.

  6. Bill Hussein O'Reilly says:

Hey maybe next week Joe and Mike will get it on for the cameras?

Now there’s a gross image to begin your day!

  7. I like Morning Joe. Although I do not care for Joe Scarborough very much (a little too full of himself) but Mika and Willie and Mike Barnicle are a much better sight to wake up to than Diane Sawyer, Harry Smith or Al Roker. Just my two cents.

I think that the FCC is an unamerican organization and hope they avoid this whole mess. If I want to say the F-word I have a right to.

  8. rawdawg says:

bailing out big biz makes me say the f word too

  9. JollyRoger says:

Does anyone remember their ruthless persecution of Howard Stern? And what about MSNBC? Why don’t THEY do something? They certainly didn’t hesitate to give Imus the ax.

Honestly, I have always had misgivings about what was done to Stern and Imus, even though I consider both of them to be shitbags. Be that as it may, (1.) my opinion shouldn’t ever be what keeps someone from expressing THEIR opinion, and (2.) I despise censorship as a matter of principle. But in the interests of fairness, how can MSNBC ignore Scarborough after what they did to Imus?

  10. Fran says:

    WTF????

  11. TOM339 says:

I’ve written to the FCC to complain, too.

The FCC dogged Howard Stern for more than a decade and the fines totaled more than $4 million dollars. This is what prompted Stern take his radio program to satellite radio.

Scarborough doesn’t deserve a break just because he has had his nose up Bush’s rectum since his days in the House.

    I say, fine him.

  12. Bob says:

The FCC won’t be charging MSNBC for any fines for a very simple reason: they have zero authority over the content of cable television. On the FCC complaint page linked to above, you can complain about “Broadcast programs showing obscene, profane, and/or indecent material”. Cable is not broadcast, however.

  13. f. says:

Joe wants to get fired, and letting his anger loose after losing face in the presidential election was the best way he could achieve a firing. Now he’s free–to strike at presidential voters through sex some more, or to go back to his alligator patch and brood alone. He and Mika and Gregory do nothing deep.

  14. Estacada says:

Frankly, I never understood how a blowhard like Joe Scarborough got a TV program of his own to begin with.

He’s annoying, nasal, and not very smart.

Yet, he seems to think he’s the brightest guy on TV and everyone is waiting with baited breath for his every word. Wrong!

  15. Mauigirl says:

I SO hope they do fine or suspend him! This was pretty hilarious though – the expressions on the others’ faces were great.

  16. Aunt Peg says:

    I agree!

Imagine if Keith had said “fuck you” on-air?

Limbaugh, Hannity, Bill-O and the rest of the wingnuts would be screeching about the “coarsening of the culture” and the only remedy is Keith’s immediate termination.”

    They’re such hypocrites.

  17. adeez says:

I’m 30, and while I’m fascinated by many human behaviors and beliefs, that some words are deemed “curses” is perhaps the biggest mind-blower of all.

No, this idiot should not be disciplined for saying “fuck.” Instead, the FCC should be abolished and people should be able to express themselves as if we lived in a “free” country.

While I’m bewildered by a lot of what I see, I can at least somewhat understand the opposition’s point. But I will never, ever, understand why a movement of the vocal cords could be taboo.

That (e.g.) “fudge” and “shoot” are OK while
“fuck” and “shit” are legally actionable is perhaps the best example of how sick and twisted our society is.

  18. HelenWheels says:

    I’m with adeez!

And, I posted this too, because I hate wingnut pig-eyes and he’s a hypocrite of the highest order, and this is hilarious.

I can’t wait to see what Keith does with it…

Maybe it’ll be the end of JS’s shitty show? OH I hope so… I can’t even watch MSNBC until K.O. & Rachel come on, like Rachel said.

  19. Peace Nick says:

    MEMO TO SCARBOROUGH:

Get your resume ready and send to FOX Noise.

His days at MSNBC are numbered now.

  20. Wisenheimer says:

Amazing that it only took a remark by Don Imus saying “Nappy Headed Hoes” about a female basketball team to get him thrown off the air. Joe Scarborough says not once but twice in 2 years “FUCK YOU” on the air and NOTHING happens to him. Yes the media is heavily controlled by Republicans.

They need to axe Joe, break up the affair that he is having with Mika and put some people on the show that would make it worth watching. A good place to start would be hire Mike Barnicle & Harold Ford, Jr to host and keep the same guests coming through.

The show needs an overhaul. Start with that loudmouth Joe Scarborough and send him over to co-host with either Bill O’Reilly or Rush Limbaugh.

  21. VicoDANIEL says:

Christopher and Wisenheimer are spot on.

If the FCC does nothing to Scarborough for saying “fuck you” on the air and fails to fine the parent company of MSNBC which is NBC/General Electric, then what we’re looking at is a double standard that favors conservatives.

Another example of why we need to see the full restoration of the Fairness Doctrine.

No wonder bloviators like Rush Limbaugh and Sean Hannity are terrified of the Fairness Doctrine and what it will do to their programs.

  22. Tiny Dancer says:

I’m confused and maybe someone can explain this to me. MSNBC’s David Shuster was suspended for a month because he dared to say the Clinton’s were “pimping out Chelsea in the campaign.” But Joe Scarborough can use the “F” word at 7:30am and nothing happens to him? What if he had used the “N” word or the “C” word? How is it different?

  23. Wisenheimer says:

It isn’t any different. David Shuster was right when he said what he did and the Clinton regime DEMANDED that he be fired. It was Tim Russert who stepped in & saved David Shuster’s job that time. Joe Scarborough hates David Shuster and that is why Shuster will never be back on the show again.

Joe Scarborough has protection from someone considering that he has a scandal hanging over his head with the Lori Klausutis murder. She was rumored to have been having an affair with Scarborough and was found dead in his office in Florida. That case was never solved, it just went away. You have to wonder who Scarborough knows.

If enough people were to complain to MSNBC and call foul on what Scarborough did they may be forced to replace him. It would only be an improvement to the show. And get rid of that dreadful Mika who seems to be channeling Sarah Palin with her hairdo.

  24. retahyajyajav says:

This is some funny, funny shit.

Old Barnicle looked like he farted and lifted off his chair. Mika Brezinski stuttered and Jim Carney almost fell off his chair. Chuck Todd remained calm throughout and didn’t break a sweat.

  25. Wisenheimer says:

Did you hear what Mika said to Joe after he said that? “Come to Mommy”, what was that?

  26. retahyajyajav says:

Mika said “come to mommy” to Joe after he said “fuck you?”

Oh man, you just know there’s some freaky stuff happening in that studio before the cameras get rolling. I hope they use condoms.

  27. Idaho Librul says:

I have a cousin in Pensacola, FL. She’s a banquet manager at some big hotel down there.

Anyway, she told us over the summer that everyone in Pensacola understand Scarborough will run for elected office again. Possibly mayor or even governor. He’s very popular on the Redneck Riviera.

If true, it could be he just doesn’t give a damn what happens on Morning Joe.

  28. Wisenheimer says:

I wish he would quit the show so that better people can come on there. If he runs as a Republican he will have a hard time, but then Florida isn’t like anywhere else, so he might get elected. Mayor wouldn’t be so bad, but Governor? Is Charlie Crist going somewhere?

  29. Walk on Socks says:

    I’m a libertarian vis a vis language.

The idea of the government maintaining a list of words that can’t be used on TV bothers me. At the sametime, I understand and appreciate how the use of certain words is offensive to people and to that end I am mindful of not using them. I respect other people’s standards.

I understand the point Christopher is making.

If the FCC leveled a huge fine at CBS for what became known as Nipplegate, then why is Joe Scarborough treated differently? It is a double standard and shouldn’t be tolerated.

  30. Big Hank says:

    Everyone is so nice here.

Look, Scarborough is a rightwing gas bag and he should be kicked in the ass for dropping the “F” word on broadcast TV. If Wolf Blitzer did it, you can rest assured Scarborough would be all over him like white on rice.

  31. Adirondacky says:

LMAO! Jeesh, this Scarborough is really clueless.

  32. Randy Arroyo says:

Does Morning Joe have ratings? I mean, I don’t know anyone who watches it. The program sucks and only attracts losers for guests.

  33. Wisenheimer says:

Looks like Morning Joe is immune to anything governing anyone else. He gets away with saying whatever he wants and he doesn’t suffer any punishment. Fine example set for those of us who know the media is controlled…..now it has been unconditionally confirmed…..it is.

  34. mb says:

This is clearly very old but I just discovered this. You guys are clearly all big libs. Constantly bringing up those wackjobs Olberman and Maddow. You wouldn’t know common sense if it smacked you in the chops.

  35. Bill says:

News flash! This blog is chock-full of liberal wienies!
