President Barack Obama!

Tuesday, November 4, 2008

“If there is anyone out there who still doubts that America is a place where all things are possible; who still wonders if the dream of our founders is alive in our time; who still questions the power of our democracy, tonight is your answer.

It’s the answer told by lines that stretched around schools and churches in numbers this nation has never seen; by people who waited three hours and four hours, many for the very first time in their lives, because they believed that this time must be different; that their voice could be that difference.

It’s the answer spoken by young and old, rich and poor, Democrat and Republican, black, white, Latino, Asian, Native American, gay, straight, disabled and not disabled – Americans who sent a message to the world that we have never been a collection of Red States and Blue States: we are, and always will be, the United States of America.” – Barack Obama, Grant Park, Chicago, Nov. 4th, 2008

    I’m pinching myself.

It’s like a dream and what a speech. I’m so proud of the American people.

Now comes the hard part. Pushing for the changes we want.

  6. chrisso says:

America, you looked into the abyss of divisiveness and intolerance and burst through into a new dawn of positive inclusion. Congrats.

  7. HelenWheels says:

I almost can’t stand how happy I am. My voice is gone from the combo of champagne + screaming.

I’m so full of love and joy tonight I can’t believe I haven’t taken ecstacy for 25 years.

  8. Winnie H. says:

It’s hard to put into words what I’m feeling tonight. What a great day for America.

Thank you, Christopher, for your early support for Obama, and for providing this forum and all the great information over the past several months.

  10. R.J. says:

I’ve always been proud of my country, but I’ve never been as proud of it as I am tonight. Thank you all for taking it back. 🙂

  11. Fran says:

All this & a puppy too.

What a huge sigh of relief, we can begin the healing.

Can we let Bush leave early & swear Obama in early?

  12. D.R.Scott says:

Around my neighborhood at stupid o’clock in the morning, people were yelling and car horns were blaring, and I couldn’t call anybody on the phone to celebrate because the line was busy.

This historic win proves, if anything, that the impossible is real, and for the first time in a long time, I’m proud of this country.

As a co-worker told me, “When I look at Obama, I see us. I see what the real America looks like.”

    Aren’t we beautiful?

  13. DMason says:

What a great day! We did it. After all these months, speeches and energy and Obama won! I feel stoned.

  14. Woodcliffe says:

What an amazing reality to wake up to.

I can’t believe how huge Obama’s margins of victory were. This is what a genuine landslide looks like.

Congrats, Barack Obama and Joe Biden!

  15. stradella says:

    They always say, “tomorrow, tomorrow.”

    Tomorrow is here.

Tomorrow is now. This is something I never thought I would live to see. Not in the USA. Dr. King is smiling wide this morning!

For the first time in eight years I truly believe in my America again…

Last night, at his acceptance speech, race was a mere footnote. I saw people of all races and persuasions with one common goal…To start healing our wounded country.

This campaign was not about Obama…and he realized that too. This is the first President that I truly feel gives a damn about everyone.

And as a young African American I would be lying if I said I didn’t have a joyful emotional break down last night. It was like America said, “You now have permission to be anything you want to be now…” I now see that NOTHING can hold me back but myself. Thank you for having the audacity to Hope Mr. President! =0)

  17. I said earlier in the week, he would win at least 340 electoral votes and in NC the vote would be within 60k. I was off by 46k on the votes in NC. There is only 14k votes out of over 4.5 million that put Barack over McCain. Now they count the provisional ballots. I would say that geting within one tenth of one percent was a pretty good guess on my part. We will be blue in the end its just gonna take a few weeks to sort it all out.

While we did not manage a blow out here we have scared the shit out of the Jesus freaks and Jessie Helms loving rednecks. Yes today was a day that I was so damn proud to be an American that I was sporting blue at work and could not stop smiling.
