Quote of the Day

Friday, September 5, 2008

“Honestly, I’ve never paid that much attention to Michelle Obama. Just what little I’ve seen of her and Senator Obama, is that they’re a member of an elitist class… that thinks that they’re uppity.” – Rep. Lynn Westmoreland (R-GA), using a slur to describe the Obamas in CQ Politics

  1. Harry says:

Westmoreland is from Georgia. He knows exactly what his words mean: get to the back of the bus, n****r. He’s filth.

  2. Brigadoon says:

Here we go, the uppity, black man charge again. Is this what would Rep. Westmoreland says about Colin Powell or Oprah Winfrey?

  3. Jazzy says:

Damn can a brother and sista get a break. I mean really would rep. Westmoreland prefer for them to be swilling 40 ounces and smoking J’s, so as not to feel threaten by a couple living out the American dream.

  4. stradella says:

    I hear ya,’ Jazzy.

Black people don’t get a break in the GOP. This is why I get spittin’ mad when I see a brother or a sister on TV and they say they’re conservatives.

They ain’t gonna’ to sleep in the Big House no matter.

Of course, Westmoreland would prefer for the Obamas to be in the same vein as a Jesse Jackson or Al Sharpton. That way, he can continue to pigeonhole Black folk in the little racist hole he has assigned for us. He–and the Republicans and more than a few Democrats who think like him–are indeed threatened by African Americans who dare to be educated and dare compete with him on his terms…and win. How dare these uppity Negroes subvert his stereotypes and not come bowing and scraping to him and his ilk for approval!

  6. Sasha in MN says:

I wish Dr. Condoleezza Rice was in the room, but I’d imagine he’d mistake her for a bathroon attendant.
I’d also be interested in knowing what Rep. Lynn Westmoreland considers the second Mrs. McCain in her garishly lavious outfits and numerous homes to be.

  7. fran says:

Westmoreland just called the Obamas higher class than himself.
    Way to zing a slur!

  8. Winnie H. says:

I continue to have to take deep calming breaths and seek out relief for stress because these people infuriate me.

  9. enigma4ever says:

and for those that say – no- there is no rascism problem in america…geeez…makes me wonder how many of these guys have white pillowcases in their cars..damn

  10. libhomo says:

This quote explains what conservatives mean by calling Obama “elitist.” It reminds me of how the right uses “Hollywood elite” to attack Jews in the entertainment industy.

  11. Joe in Colorado says:

This is a learning curve process for me. I’m white so I didn’t understand the import of the term “uppity” used to belittle black people until this campaign, so I think I get it now. The Obamas are smart and well educated and accomplished. I think they will serve this nation well.

  12. Gryphen says:

Well I am going to go against the tide and give Congresswoman Westmoreland mad props.

At least the bitch has the female cojones to say what EVERY other Republican is too chickenshit to say out loud, even though we KNOW that is what they are all thinking.

  13. Gryphen says:

Oh wait, “Lynn” is a dudes name?

    My bad.

  14. cindy’s $300,000 earrings — just another normal toy for non-elitist republicans

i think it is time to spam westmorelands house email
