Barack Obama: 6 Delegates from Clinching Nomination

Tuesday, June 3, 2008

According to an Associated Press tally, Illinois Sen. Barack Obama is just 6 shy of the magic number of 2,118 delegates needed to cinch the Democratic nomination.

Obama’s campaign has arranged a victory celebration tonight at the site of this summer’s Republican National Convention, an in-your-face gesture to Sen. John McCain, who would be his opponent in the race to become the nation’s 44th president.

The AP said Obama sealed his victory based on public declarations from delegates as well as from an additional 22 who had confirmed their intentions to the news service. The count also included five delegates Obama was guaranteed as long as he gained 15 percent of the vote in South Dakota and Montana later in the day.

NBC News has been maintaining its own tally of delegates, which showed Obama’s being 6 delegates short of the 2,118 needed.

I am beside myself. Six months ago I wasn’t sure this night would happen but, it has and Obama will be our nominee!

It’s so of the cable news coverage of Obama’s big night.

The idiot anchors still can’t quite wean themselves off Clinton’s teat.

They should be showing video and pictures of Obama but, all I’ve seen are videos and pictures of Hillary.

    E.N.O.U.G.H. E.N.O.U.G.H. E.N.O.U.G.H.

Congratulations Sen. Obama! You’ve fought a fair and honorable race and you opposed the powerful Clinton machine. You have earned my respect for the rest of my life. Hang tough, Sir. The Clintons refuse to exit Stage Right and get on. He will have to deal with the Clintons until one of them drops dead.

I am so excited about this that I’ve been smiling all day — at the grocery story, the bookstore, all my errands.

We have a bottle of bubbly chilling in the fridge at our house, just waiting to be opened tonight. 🙂

I remember when Obama won right here in Idaho.

The limousine punditry all said he didn’t have a chance and he should just stay home and save his money. Well, his message resonated in Idaho with regular, white, Hispanic, working and middle-class people who are struggling to pay their mortgages, buy food and gas up their cars. Obama offered a new voice and a break from the Bush/Clinton tyranny.

He won here in Idaho by 57% to 36%. So there all you limousine pundits. You may be paid millions but you have no clue about the rest of this nation.

Gwyneth Paltrow offers some warm words about why she’s endorsing Barack Obama.

“A lot of people think that we’re not very sensitive to the rest of the world, and I think that having a president called Barack Hussein Obama in 2008 says that we are part of the world, and we don’t want to make unilateral decisions about the fate of all of us. I just pray to God that he wins.”
