Colin Powell Endorses President Obama for Second Term

Thursday, October 25, 2012

Some presidential endorsement carry more gravitas than others.

When a highly decorated four-star general, or former Joint Chiefs of Staff, throws his support behind a candidate for president, I believe voters, particularly the undecided voters, sit up and listen.

Colin Powell meets this threshold. Mr. Powell told CBS The Morning: he is endorsing President Barack Obama’s reelection effort. He was highly critical of the Republican challenger, Mitt Romney:

“I’m not quite sure which Governor Romney we’d be getting with respect to foreign policy.”

Powell went on:

“You know, I voted for him [Obama] in 2008 and I plan to stick with him in 2012, and I’ll be voting for he and Vice President Joe Biden next month. I think we ought to keep on the track that we are on.”

Colin Powell, who is a Republican supports Affirmative Action, was instrumental in the repeal of the viciously homophobic Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell, and he is a supporter of same-sex marriage.

    This is wonderful news!

  2. Joe in Colorado says:

Indeed. A valuable endorsement from a highly respected, former military man.

  3. stradella says:

I’ve never understood why Colin Powell says he’s a Republican?

He supports Affirmative Action, played a role in the repeal of ‘Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell,’ and he says he is a supporter of gay marriage. This doesn’t sound like any Republican I know.

Brother Colin is a closet Democrat. Come on now, Colin. Just admit it.

  4. ChiTOM says:

Mitt Romney is no moderate and Colin Powell is smart enough to recognize this. I have no doubt if Romney wins this election, the USA will become involved in another Middle East war beginning with strikes on Iran. This scenario will drag both Russia and China into the mix. Such a conflict could very well be the start of WWIII.

  5. Condoleeza Rice could learn a few things from General Powell.

  6. Unconditional1 says:

Colin Powell is more of a centrist than a right-wing conservative. I personally know many gay and bi Republicans who keep their private orientation away from the “probing” scope of the invasive Republican party. Many also are discontented and discordant with the tacks the party has been taking for several years.

Colin Powell is a class act and a powerful voice of both foreign and domestic diplomacy…combined with deep reasoning. It is great that he is supportive of the policies of the White House and Barack Obama. Perhaps others will follow his lead. There are scant few true leaders within the GOP today!

  7. Yumyum says:

I once had a lot of respect for Powell; not anymore. He is just another black supporting a black. Wonder if he converted to Muslim, as well? Don’t need endorsements from public figures to sway my own vote in any election. I will not throw others under the bus.

  8. DMason says:

Powell is respected in many circles. His endorsement of Obama is gold.

  9. D. Ray says:

I have a tremendous amount of respect for Colin Powell who knows more about Foreign and Domestic policy then most Republicans will ever know. This says a lot about the President and the Direction he is taking this Great country in..Upwards..not Backwards!!

  10. Rachel says:

    Yumyum – You’re a racist.

  11. Harry says:

    Yumyum – COCKPUNCH

  12. Pechanga says:

This week is turning into a terrible week for Willard Romney.

He gets his ass kicked by President Obama in the third and final debate, then this abortion insanity with Murdock, and then Donald “the Clown” Trump making a fool of himself and now Colin Powell endorsing the president. Obama must be feeling pretty, damned good!

  13. Randy Arroyo says:

Powell could be the last moderate Republican. He’s so moderate that if he ran for office today I do not think he could get elected. The loons and kooks would kick him to the curb for a crazier man.

    …Its over.
