Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg Sleeps Through SOTU Address

Wednesday, January 26, 2011

While President Obama was spared the hostile presence of Supreme Court Justices Samuel Alito, Clarence Thomas and Antonin Scalia who did not attend last night’s State of the Union address, their colleague, 77-year old Justice Ruth Bader Ginsburg used the time to catch up on her beauty sleep.

Why would anyone in their right mind want to sit on the SCOTUS bench at the age of 77? I can can’t even imagine it nor would I want to. Maybe 70 should be the maximum age for them? I mean, airline pilots are forced to retired their wings by 65, so why not the Supremes?

  2. Feminazi,

I read the leaked SOTU text hours before Obama delivered it. I can’t blame Ruth for dozing off. It wasn’t one of Obama’s best. Although 92% of the people polled after were delighted with it.

I watched about 45 minutes of the speech, and then turned it off as I was getting bored with it. It was a real yawner.

  4. MichaelnotTchristian says:

I just skipped the whole thing………. I’m very tired of watching this President go on TV and Lie his Ass off…………

  5. Robbie says:

I missed the first forty-five minutes, but at least I got to sleep through Ryan’s speech and laugh at Crazy Eyes afterward.

  6. Walk on Socks says:

Obama’s a gifted orator but what I saw last night suggested he was first and foremost concerned with reaching out to the Republicans.

As usual, he’s absorbed with winning over the likes of John Boehner and Mitch McConnell. Someone needs to tell the president that the ink is dry when it comes to the GOP and how they perceive him.

McConnell even said rather snidely that replacing Obama in 2012 is why he goes to work each day.

  7. It reminds me of the night at a fraternity held toga party where a young girl’s breast was exposed when the toga slipped. She was oblivious and all the drunken pledges just stood there staring and giggling.

How disrespectful is it of Justice Kennedy to let her sit there slumped over like a drunk. He could have assisted her.

    Shivery is dead

  8. Bill Hussein O'Reilly says:

I bet Ruth Bader was badder in her day. Old girl was a sex freak back in law school and loved the boys and the boys loved her.

She was all about flashing her torts and giving up her common-law areas.

  9. fran says:

Not the first time someone nodded out @ a SOTU address, one congressman was in full on REM sleep, complete w snoring during a Bush 2 address.

I fear Ruth’s health is not good. I hope she has the sense to retire before Obama’s term is up. So many great Supreme Court justices made the timing of their resignation aligned with the party of choice w the sitting president.

  10. joe says:

After the way Mister Obama threw the Supreme Court Justices under the bus during the last SOTU address, I’m really surprised any of them showed up.

  11. Mets Fan says:

I don’t recall Obama ever throwing the Supremes under the bus. Can you enlighten us, Joe?

Now, Obama did in fact say he disagreed with a highly controversial and probably illegal ruling by the conservative majority on the high court ruling removing corporate campaign spending limits. Alito, made a dismissive face, shook his head repeatedly and appeared to mouth the words “not true,” like an insolent child. Such behavior is unheard of from a Supreme Court justice during a State of the Union address.

  12. Mark Bernstein says:

How come none of the cable shows even mentioned The Supreme Court Justice Ginsburg Nap after the speech? I kept watching her for 45 minutes with her head knee bound for most of the time. Selective reporting?
