President Obama’s approval rating is at its lowest point to date. According to the newest GALLUP poll, only 54% of Americans now approve of the job he’s doing as president.
A few thoughts on why I believe this is happening:
• Waffling on the repeal of “Don’t Ask, Don’t Tell” and the “Defense of Marriage Act”
• Delay in removing the combat troops from of Iraq by Aug. 2010. The new date now stands at sometime 2011
• Failure to control the Blue Dog Democrats, and win the support of the AMA and the insurance industry for the creation of national healthcare
All help to reinforce an image of a president unable to deliver the change he made the cornerstone of his campaign.

I definitely agree with all three reasons, especially the Blue Dogs. I hate those punks.
I think President Obama needs to stop this silly effort to reach out to the Republicans and return to the progressive agenda that helped him get elected in the first place. He needs to show leadership and stop compromising. Otherwise, Mr. Obama will cease to matter anymore.
While certain members of our society are dancing in the streets over these polls the reality is that the polls are not specific to President Obama but rather a measurement of the dissatisfaction Americans feel toward government in general.
Its just that Obama puts a face and a name to an overall system.
Americans, such as myself voted for CHANGE in November 2008 and realistically we wanted a complete overall over the ‘business as usual’ in Washington D.C.
Personally I think Obama has really stirred things up and while I am dissatisfied with some of the specifics I have to acknowledge that Congress cannot keep up….
A more truer measurement might be to poll people giving them the ability to express their feelings about Congress at the same time as they do about Obama…I bet in that poll Obama would jump at least 7 points…
Tao,
I know for a fact the job approval numbers for this Congress are in the toilet.
Congress just barely recovered from last year’s historically low approval numbers. Now, they’re tanking again.
