Longtime Washington talk-show host John McLaughlin is facing fire Monday for referring to Barack Obama as an “Oreo” during a segment on his Sunday political program, “The McLaughlin Group.
The veteran Washington journalist was discussing the recent comments from the Rev. Jesse Jackson, who was caught last week by an open microphone on Fox News saying the Illinois senator is “talking down to black people.”
Referencing Jackson’s comments, McLaughlin said:
“Does it frost Jackson, Jesse Jackson, that…an Oreo should be the beneficiary of the long civil rights struggle which Jesse Jackson spent his lifetime fighting for?”

The level and the quality of discourse in this nation is getting worse and worse each election cycle. I think and I believe, thanks to the Clintons playing the race card during the primary, it has become acceptable for the New Yorker to lampoon Michelle and Barack Obama and say they were doing “satire” and John McLaughlin can go on-air and call Barack Obama an “oreo” and get away with it. We’re becoming and nation of dumbed-down, NASCAR watching dolts who can’t find Iraq on a map. I am left to wonder if we will even exist as a nation in 50 more years.

John Jay is so correct! Excellent comment and it’s good to see you posting and adding your intelligence once more! Don’t be a stranger, John.

Nice comment Jay Jay. No question about that.

I didn’t know McLaughlin was still on TV?
I think John Jay touched on each point. The concept of debate and the exchange of ideas — even when people disagree, has been lost and the nation as a whole is worse off for it.
I blame the elimination of the Fairness Doctrine and the birth of AM talk radio, followed by cable news channels like FIXED Noise.

McLaughable doesn’t even get the concept of an oreo right (he almost looks like he wants to say cookie right after he says it, LOL). I’m with the other posts–it seems like this country has gone issues-free at a time when we need to be making issue-focused choices.
I don’t know if it is the presence of ethnicity for the first itme in a presidential race, or the hangover from the giddy coverage of the Hillary-Barack slugfest, or total denial that this country is in dire staits, but something’s got to give.

makes sense coming from a cracker LOL

Cracker?
More like a Klansman. These rancid old racists make me want to hurl! I’d like to hear McLaughlin use language like that on Slauson Blvd. in South Central or Fruitvale in Oakland.
Yeah, crickets.

Those old white people are so comical. Let’s vote for another one!

I don’t even find this to be racist I find it to be plain stupid. An old white guy questioning a black guy about is “blackness” almosts borders on being comical.
Read my blog on it :www.ebonymompolitics.wordpress.com

I love Oreos.
Especially, with a glass of cold, fresh milk. Maybe my favorite snack after a long day and a big dinner.

Hey John Jay, don’t forget that Oblama is going to sponsor a Nascar Driver next year! Nothing wrong with Nascar/ Lots of things wrong with Rascism – From Whites or Blacks….

I think is a clumsy effort by a white guy to manipulate black people. It reminds me of pundits who actually claim that women will be offended if Obama picks a woman other than Clinton.

Old, rich Republican men have no bidness usin’ this type of terminology.
McLaughlin is past and if he was tryin’ to be hip, it fell flat.

John Mclaughlin is no comedian.
Don’t quite your day job because the Comedy Club won’t be calling to book a return engagement.

That douch nozzle, makes me glad i do not watch tv nearly as much as i did – trouble is many people do watch that idiotic scream fest – so predictable , fat tony with his pontifications, the financial guy saying everything is honky dory – yeah for him maybe and Eleanor predictably being “graciously” allowed to make her point after Pat the fascist or toni is told to shut up – what an idiotic excercise in television it is -
Discourse in ameriKa is as bad or worse as it was in the fifties – disgusting.
