WASHINGTON – Barack Obama collected the support of four of John EdwardsDemocratic National Convention delegates on Thursday, then gained the backing of four superdelegates and a large labor union as he marched steadily toward the party’s presidential nomination.

Obama’s overall delegate total has climbed to 1,895 compared to 1,718 for his rival Hillary Clinton. It takes 2,025 to clinch the nomination at the party convention in Denver this summer.

Edwards, who bestowed his long-sought endorsement on Obama on Wednesday, won 19 delegates before departing the presidential race in January.

Within hours, Obama picked up the backing of three of them from South Carolina and one in New Hampshire. In addition, three superdelegates — Reps. James McDermott of Washington, and Henry Waxman and Howard Berman of California endorsed Obama.

Obama is now only 130 delegates shy of the magical number of 2,025. He needs fewer than half of the undecideds to cinch the prize.

Now we can begin speculating about what Obama’s cabinet will look like. Who will ask to be his AG, Secretaries of HHS, Agriculture and Defense.

    Now things get exciting!

    It’s funny.

In February, 2,025 seemed a million miles away but today, the number is so close at hand that I can feel it.

    Hillary who? :-)

  • 130 delegates?

These 130 delegates will be the most precious and the sweetest of all, as these 130 delegates will give Obama the magic number of 2,025.

    I can almost taste it.
