2,025 Delegates Needed to Secure the Nomination

OBAMA 1,844 1,844 delegates
CLINTON 1,688 1,688 delegates
EDWARDS 18 18 delegates

In what’s been described as a routing, Barack Obama swept the great state of North Carolina, winning 56% to 42% over rival Hillary Clinton. Obama won 60 additional delegates.

Meanwhile, the much ballyhooed Clinton victory in Indiana never materialized. Clinton had a tepid victory in Indiana 51% to 49%.

Obama’s stunning performance in North Carolina moves him to within 181 delegates of securing the Democratic nomination. It’s clear, we have our nominee.

Congratulations Senator Obama!

What an amazing night. I thought Obama would do well in North Carolina but a 14 point win exceeded my wildest expectations. Did you hear his speech last night? What a class act. This guy is so smart and so poised. He’s real presidential material.

I’m on 6 hours of sleep but I’m dancing on the ceiling today. What a great night for the Democrats and for Obama. Any guesses on how much longer until Hillary closes up shop? If she drags this mess out all the way to Puerto Rico, then she really is out of her mind and needs help.

  • I don’t think she’ll quit yet…
Here’s Tim Russert from last night…

    Peace,

  • If only the queen could get that into her head.

It’s funny listening to the TV media this morning.

They still treat Hillary as if she’s a viable candidate who actually has chance at winning. She doesn’t. It’s over and it has been over for a long time.

My guess is, she will drag it out until Puerto Rico and the drop out with a dramatically scaled back campaign. She’s broke and her campaign costs $1 million dollars a day to run. She’ll self-fund it and after Puerto Rico, fold her cards.

  • Now Hillary is trying to buy Superdelegate votes.

Tom339 - Were you watching CNN? I had them on this morning and they had these strange pie charts that proved her various strengths with this group or that group.

CNN basically ignored Obama’s enormous win in North Carolina, his delegate advantage and focused all of their energies on who Hillary is strongest with.

The primary is done. It’s time to stick a fork in Hillary. I guess the networks are waiting for the “OK” from AIPAC to say it.

I agree with Woodcliffe about CNN. AIPAC sets the agenda at CNN. This is why Wolf Blitzer is on the air 6 days out of 7. He’s a former AIPAC lobbyist. AIPAC worships Hillary Clinton, and has funded several anti-Obama 527s. It pisses me off to think Israel is meddling in U.S. politics.

First off, congrats to Barack Obama for his stunning North Carolina victory. He won by 14 points and took the bulk of delegates. Secondly, if anyone thinks Hillary Clinton will drop out, think again. The Clintons are ruthless, calculating despots. They’re lives are validated from the power that comes with politics. She will not drop out of the race. Even after Obama is sworn in to office, the Clintons will be working on background to undermine his presidency.

Even if the Hillary campaign gets her way with the rules committee and adds Florida and Michigan to her column, Barack Obama is far ahead in delegates.

The primary race is over and as Christopher says, we have a nominee.

    Well done, Obama!

  • The reason the MSM are ignoring Obama’s victory last night is because it is in their be$t intere$t to keep this primary marathon going.

Another primary means more viewers for them, more $$$ spent on ads in the media.

There is no chance for Hillary to win the nomination, but the media want to keep it going for $$$ reasons.

    Congratulations to Senator Obama.

    GOBAMA!

  • i am so happy this is done, now we just need billary to drop out

  • We also have Hillary loaning herself another $6.2 million last month.

    $6.2 million?

$4 million of that is owed Mark Penn. He’s a vicious son-of-a-bitch and if Hillary stiffs him, he’ll destroy her. Say bye-bye to any hopes of 2016.

    Obama’s won 32 states.
The Borg Queen’s won 16 states.
    Nuff said.

I stopped by the Democratic Underground. The Hillbots are self-destructing. They’ve completely lost their collective Borg mind.

Most are promising to not vote for him in November and promising to support McCain to teach Obama a lesson.

    They’re quite literally insane!

I don’t know if its true but I heard the guy who runs the DU has ties to the KKK.

Only visited once long ago and I didn’t like it one bit.

Obama’s speech last night was forceful and eloquent.

I wasn’t keen to embrace him but he has an uncanny ability to grow on you and win you over to his side. I think he may be just who we need to clean up the mess left behind by Bush. Plus, Michelle ain’t too bad looking either.

Doesn’t the Federal Election Commission match dollar-for-dollar what you raise in donations? If the Clinton campaign can fudge the books, she can get the Feds to reimburse her the $11 million. Frankly, I want her gone but I sure don’t want Obama to have to retire her debt. That would be like repaying the devil.

  • Obama did really well, and not with any help from the Media and their punditheads….He did it by going to the People, the Real people…..Indiana really came through ( I also think there are some real shenigans going on in Lake County- that still need to be resolved)…he did amazing…and he is the one to fight McSame in the fall…Hill needs to drop out so we can get united and focused on the real battle.

  • Adirondacky,

You raise a very good point.

I’d hate to think the FEC is putting money in Bill and Hill’s bank account because they booked the $11 million as “campaign expenses.”

I always thought the matching rule pertained to front end donations and not backend expenditures. Maybe someone with a better understanding can explain how it works?

  • While both the McCain and Obama campaigns provide evidence of actual donations, Clinton does not, so her claim of 10 mil in donations after Pennsylvania was never verified.

That any woman who supports Clinton would even consider voting for McCain - given his vow to appoint judges who will overturn Roe v. Wade - and to set back women’s rights by 100 years - is shameful.

Yes, we do have a nominee, and he’s a good man who respects and trusts the American people and understands that it’s going to take all of us working together to break the stranglehold of fear and corruption and war that the Bush administration is leaving as its legacy.

Hillary and Bill tried desperately to hold on to that fear and war and corruption and use it to manipulate Democratic voters, but it didn’t work. There were enough of us who saw through them, and enough young voters who were ready to jump in and help, and they’ve changed the world.

I am so impressed with America’s young people. They really give me hope for the future.

  • We did our part in Allen County, IN. Obama beat Hillary by over 9000 votes! Damned rednecks and “Operation Chaos” is keeping her in the race.

  • Congrats Obama. I just hope we did not loose the national just to get the nomination. And she still insists on running. If she attacks him one more time grrr……
